OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks CatMom & diannep it helps to read your comments.  I will post more often since I really see I'm not in this alone.

Eric'sMom:  Sigh....I know it is so hard when some are hearing from their SRs and others have not.  Many use their extra time to study or get some rest....rather than writing letters.  As far as calls, he may be in a division that is not calling much....or....he could have had Watch or an appt and missed the division calls.  Chin up.....you will be one happy camper on PIR day....and even before then when you get that I'm a Sailor call!  Better times are coming!  :-)

By the way, post on here anytime you want to....even when feeling a bit down.  That is what this group is for...to help each other.   Everyone is on their journey together!

Good Morning All!

Eric's Mom,

I wish all the SRs wrote to their families and called, but some are just too busy, especially if they've been assigned a recruit position with lots of responsibility, and so, really tired.  Not sure about why no calls, but this is a transition time for everyone and some young men are not sure how to deal with family contact.  He might feel he's a "grown up" and is trying more to be independent.  Only he knows what he's going through.  Just be loving when he does make contact.

Keep up your encouraging letter writing because that love and encouragement he's getting from them is what's really helping with this Boot Camp experience.  HUGS!!

diannep, I can't speak for anyone else, but I guess I'm just a little bit sad and have only been reading what other's post and not participating.  My son left for BC on May 1st and besides the "I'm Here" call, we haven't heard a word from him.  My Ex thinks he might've missed a call from our SR last Wednesday, since it was an 847 area code, but other then that, nothing.  I'm not trying to be one of those mom's who whines about what's not happening, so I've not been very active at posting anything.  I know my SR's okay because if he wasn't, I'd have heard about that, right?  I just want to know what's going on and how he is.  I love when other's in his division get phone calls and post what's going on because at least then I know something.  Okay, I've whined enough. LOL  Sorry
