~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I booked the Navy Lodge on Monday when I recieved my son`s letter. I booked on line and placed in comments that I was there for my son`s graduation. My husband works for the Department od Defense. We should not have any problems with ID. We plan to rent a car so we can tour downtown Chi-Town. I believe the Navy Lodge was the best rates. I normally stay at the residence Inn, but they were fully booked! I will take $66 over $189 anytime!

Beaus mom:  Navy Lodge is a great choice for most.  It was renovated about a year ago.  You will receive a NEX pass to a small NEX nearby that you can shop in without your sailor present (which usually is required).  Close to the bases, like ellen said...price is good.

Other hotels in the area (about 4-5 miles from RTC) that have been recommended on here are:

Courtyard Inn (where Kit is staying), Springhill Suites, Residence Inn (we enjoyed that one), and Holiday Inn Express (CatMom enjoyed that one).  All of these should offer a Navy Grad discount rate so call direct and ask for it.  These hotels are also close to Sarge's MeetandGreet, held the night before PIR for the sailors' families/friends.

The 2 local "shuttle" services for PIR are:

Sarge's that was mentioned below, and

The area taxi service that you usually can book through your hotel.

Both Sarge''s service and the area taxi serrvice charge $3/pp each way.  However, if you use Sarge's shuttle service from the airport, he will take you to PIR for free.  You can also email him if you don't want to text/call:

Be sure to ask at the hotels (call directly) for the Navy Grad discount.  Most will offer one but you have to call the hotel directly.  Navy Lodge does not offer one.  I emailed them recently and they said what ellen posted below....about booking in your sailor's name if you don't have military ID.  They said  if you  forget, they can change it to your sailor's name when you check in.

Comment by ellen0502 on May 14, 2014 at 11:23am

The Navy Lodge does need to be booked in your SRs name unless you have a DoD ID. It is not an issue to give them your SRs information.

There is not a shuttle from the hotel to PIR. Like Eric's mom said, call Sarge of you don't want to drive to the RTC.

I stayed there when my son graduated, and it was great. It is also very convenient and easy to get to both bases. If your Sailor is staying in GL for A School, it only takes about five minutes to get there when they are ready to leave for liberty on Sat and Sun. :)

The Navy Lodge doesn't have a shuttle to PIR, but I've read that you can call Sarge (847-212-0246) and he'll take you for a small charge to and from.  He likes to book ahead of time so call him at least 7 days before PIR.

I've found that the Navy Lodge and the Quality Inn are about the same price so there's options.  Then the prices go up from there for hotels.  I only looked at the ones that have a shuttle to PIR, so I can't speak for all of them.  I hope this helps.
