~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks for all the info :) I'm worried about the marriage process and how long it will take to start getting a BAH. I think if I drive all the way out there and have to fly back home for a while I'll be so discouraged. But I know it is all going to work out!!

...I have to say....I think where you are moving is a lovely place to move if you have to leave "home!"  Quite different than Boone/Blowing Rock, but I bet you will love it!

lovemysailor:  If your car is that packed, it may be better to take the shuttle and not to have to go through the search.  They do not search all of the cars....it is more random....but I wouldn't want to take the chance.  The shuttle is only $3/pp each way, bypasses the car line, and drops you right there at the gate.  We took it and it worked out great.  Call Sarge to book his shuttle for PIR.  You can actually call or text, or email:  847 212 0246 or email johnspadaro@att.net    Your sailor can come back on it with you, as long as he is not staying in GL for A School.  In that case, he will move over there shortly after PIR, which takes several hours.  You will then receive a call from him (probably from a borrowed cell of an existing student there) to pick him up there.

Yes, diannp. Born and raised in Boone. I have lived in both Boone and Blowing Rock. It's a great place. I've lived here my whole life and am about to pick everything up and move to Monterey. It's a scary transition, but I know it will be worth it.

Thanks for the info. I've been reading the family guide. My car is going to be packed full of our belongings since I am moving the both of us to California. If I'm going to be taking my car on base and they search it, should I just take a shuttle instead? I want my SR to be able to come back to the hotel with me so we can spend as much time together as possible. I'm planning on staying at the Navy Lodge. Is there a shuttle? I guess I'll just have to wait and feel out the situation.

lovemysailor:  I see you are from Boone?  My parents have a home between Boone/Blowing Rock so we spent many hours up there!  I was a competitive swimmer and when on vacation in the summer, would train in the Appalachian State pool!  Small world!  I haven't been up there since 1995, so I know it probably has changed so much since then.  Is Daniel Boone Inn still there?  We used to love to go there!

No, PIR begins at 9 a.m.  Not sure where he got that time?  It is over at 10:30 a.m.  The gates open at 6:30 and we recommend all try to get there early to get good seating in your division section.  PIR is the same time each week.

Yes, the form letter will have lots of info.  But in the meantime, read through the "Family Guide" below which has lots of info in it!

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide_v18Jun2013.pdf

Once you have the form letter confirming the PIR date, etc, it is not too early to book your hotel.  If you book direct (i.e., don't go through a discount travel agency online), you can cancel up to day before/of arrival with no penalty.  The online discount travel sites may have different rules so I don't know about them.  Hotels recommended by others on here are: Navy Lodge (about a mile or so from RTC---good rates---book in your SR's name if you don't have your own military ID), Residence Inn (we stayed there and liked it!), Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  Other than Navy Lodge, all of the other hotels are close together--about 4-5 miles from RTC, near Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for all families of sailors (sorry, no sailors will be there....).  You can get shuttle service through Sarge or with the local area service to/from PIR.  Be sure so ask for the Navy Grad rate at the hotels...call them directly.  There is no Navy Grad rate  at Navy Lodge, though.

Once more people join this group, we will be giving lots more info!

Good Morning!

For those flying, book on Southwest Airlines if you can, into either Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic).  There is no change fee if your SR gets delayed in training (mine did so it happens!)...you just pay the change in fare, which could even be cheaper....and 2 bags check for free.

Is your SR staying in GL for A School or flying out?  If staying in GL for A School, stay until at least Sunday night as those students have daytime Liberty through the weekend.  If flying out, chances are they will be leaving on Sat....bussed to the airports in the middle of the night to wait for flights....you can meet them there and with ID, get an airlines gate pass and wait until their plane departs.  Sometimes they don't leave until Sunday....rare, but it happens....so if possible, you may want to stay until Sunday just in case.  You can always sightsee if your sailor leaves on Sunday!  That is what we did.

Good Morning!

My SR's recruiter said that PIR will begin at 1:30pm. He said that's what their website says. I find that kinda strange considering the RTC website says to get there at 6:30 am. Is it different for some? She's in ship 03 division 209. Will the form letter have all this information on it, like what time I should show up and whatnot? Is it too early to book my hotel? I'm driving so I won't need any plane tickets. I'm assuming that I'll need to book my hotel for the nights of 06/26 and 06/27.

Hi!

Welcome to Navy for Moms!!

My Sailor Daughter's PIR was March 2013--can't believe how fast time has flown!.  She is an IT3 (Information Systems Technician, Petty Officer Third Class) stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. I primarily provide scriptural encouragement for the PIR groups, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and a few of the other groups that I am a member of.  I'll also help out with anything that I am familiar with--all kinds of tidbits I learned during my daughter's Boot Camp experience~~  This site really made the time go much faster.  I'm so thankful that my Sailor daughter sent me the link for this awesome group of friends when she enlisted!!  Count 9 Fridays and before you know it, you'll be seeing your baby again at PIR!!  Here we go!!!
