~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

For calling cards check out callsforrecruits.com.

He will give you some for your SR for free. You can read about why he does it and his mission etc.

I got mine at King Soopers (Kroeger) and I honsetly don't remember "what kind" it was, I'll will have to check when I go to the store. :) Really look at them and find out what their fees or deductions might be, some use 10-30 minutes just to make the call.

Thanks for the info ellen0502.  Where is the best place to purchase a phone card like the one you mentioned.  We sent one with him but he said it uses credits when he calls and its almost gone.  It was $25.00 and we got it at Walmart and he's only called once.  Thanks again!

They do get a recruit card when they arrive at BC, and yes the money is deducted from their checks. They can buy phone cards at the NEX, but I would suggest buying one and sending it to your recruit. There funds are limited and they do have to by all of the things needed from that to begin with.

There are phone cards vavilable that have several hundred minutes on them and they are not expensive. I bought an 800 minute card that was refillable for $30, and my son "passed it on" to someone who didn't have one when he no longer needed it in BC.

I got a call yesterday and my SR seems to be doing well.  He sounded good but misses everyone.  He mentioned that he has a card with money on it and could buy things at the store with it???  I'm sure this money is deducted from their paycheck.  Does anyone know if they can buy phone cards at the "store"?

Dansmom - I got the call too! I feel so much better! Cole told me they had extended processing days which led to much frustration but things were moving along now. :)

I got a call yesterday, but unfortunately my phone wouldn't connect.  He called his dad instead and I got to hear all of the info from him, but I didn't get to hear his voice.  It sounds like things are going well for him.  He was able to make up the swim test (he couldn't take it before because he had a reaction to the peanut butter shot), he's doing well in PT, he thinks he did well on a test he just took, and at least for now he is carrying the flag for his division when they march.  I needed some positive news because I am a teacher and one of my 5th grade students just died.  Talk about a roller coaster ride!  Like the rest of you with PIR on 7/3 I am hoping to be able to spend the 4th with my sailor as well.  It will be my birthday and that would be the best gift ever!

You are very welcome, ladies.  So glad that my words helped you!  Remember, we have all been through this.  My son was asmoed (setback) for a week which was hard....for him and for us.  But an experience that I now can help others with!  Isn't that what we ladies do?  We network to help each other!  I truly believe that the Lord allows us to go through experiences, even painful ones, not only to "grow" us, but so that we can draw along side someone else who will be walking that same road.

So on behalf of all of your N4Mom veterans on here, I would like to say that we are so very happy to be able to help you in your journey!  Please feel free to ask anything, either posting on here or private messaging any of us.  We are here to help!
