For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

diannep - The reason the RDC are happy at the capping ceremony is because they finally got the recruits to wear their covers (hats) correctly also.
For weeks when they've been drilling it into the recruits heads on how to properly wear their covers. When they screw up, then the RDC caves in and says "ok, you don't want to wear your cover correctly, then I guess we won't wear our covers correctly"... It usually teaches them pretty quickly...

...and, yes, NavyMom. The yelling by the RDCs calms down by then and the SRs realize they really want them to become sailors! Some RDCs have even been known to run with the SRs who are struggling to get their time in. They are quite proud of all of their "new sailors" during the capping ceremony the morning BattleStations is completed.

NavyMom: Exactly. It is actually during training week 4 (about bootcamp week 5). Known as Hell Week. A very busy week for them, but they realize then that they are getting things done and in just 2 more weeks, they will be sailors! You may notice this change in more positive tones in their letters/calls.

Eileen, I am so very hopeful that your daughter has a change of heart and realizes that "family is forever". I have to admit that I am happy that my daughter and her "boyfriend" broke up before she left.
Oh Tammy, 9 days in the same sweats? Do all the SRs do that? My daughter hasn't mentioned it in her letters yet.
Oh I am hopeful this weekend brings another call :-)

Tammy, Yep that's the truth, they are waiting on their diggies so no change of clothes.
I asked my son if his smurfs stood up in the corner on their own before they were washed the first time, he said they didn't but the compartment smelled like the feed lot at home. LOL

Well my SR's girlfriend got a letter today and I'm okay with that... at least I know he's okay. He wasn't too happy though and said they made them wear their sweats for 9 days without being washed. :(
