~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

If booking the Navy Lodge, use his name. The others, book in your name.

Ok Thanks diannep !!! That is great to know and we are driving in so I am not worried about flight plans just mostly motel/hotel.  I will make reservations asap then.  Is it better to use his name or just mine??  I have seen some sites saying to use my SR's name to book a room.  Thanks again!!

Comment by diannep on May 15, 2013 at 8:52pm

I should add that if you have to cancel Southwest airlines reservations because your SR didn't pass the final PFA in time, you have up to a year to use that ticket.

Comment by diannep on May 15, 2013 at 8:49pm

marblette:  We suggest that you go ahead and book your hotel. These summer graduations are tough because the hotels tend to book up (especially the suite hotels) since there is a water park nearby -- and then being the holiday weekend....things will book fast.  There is no penalty to change/cancel reservations, usually up until day before arrival or day of arrival.

You may want to book flights too but can you book on Southwest into either Milwaukee (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL)?  There is no change fee if you need to change...just pay fare difference, which could actually be cheaper with new flights.  Two bags check for free too.

Yes, if they are delayed in training and change PIR groups, you can change everything then.  Now, if they haven't passed their 3rd PFA (final fitness test) by Monday before PIR, they will not be at PIR and will stay in the FIT Division until they pass.  In that case, they will not have a PIR, but will complete BattleStations and head straight to A School.

Thank you diannep I appreciate the welcome.  I got his box today.  I am wondering if anyone knows if it is better to wait a little longer to make the reservations in case there might be a delay in my son's graduation.  Not that there will be but is it hard to cancel and make new ones if he graduates at a later date??? Thanks for all the info!!

sophian - I just sent you a message.  The KeyLime Cove is $119 for the government rate, which includes access to the water park.  The 1st night I'd spend in the Navy Lodge since your sailor will be sleeping all day, but the remaining day I'd recommend you spend there.  It's awesome...

Tysmom- I just called the Holiday Inn Express and spoke with Jessica. She gave me a rate of $130. I told her about the rate you mentioned and that you spoke to a manager. Apparently I'm not talking to the right person. Who did you speak with?
Comment by diannep on May 15, 2013 at 6:37pm

sophiasn:  Yes, you can post the ship/division for your SR here--I see it is in your screen name.  That is a way to connect with others on here.  We just suggest that you don't use your SR's first name...it is allowed here, but not advised.  And last names of SRs are always prohibited on this site.

The ship number is their barracks number.  There are many divisions contained in one "ship".  The division number is the important one.  That will be the only division with that number at RTC.

Comment by CatMom509 on May 15, 2013 at 6:29pm

Wow, Tysmom, that's a great rate!!  Their lowest when I was with them in March a couple of months ago was $114.99 and when I checked their online rate last week it was $102.99--it just keeps getting better and better!!

The Holiday Inn Express Waukegan was also a very nice place!!  It is in the same area of hotels that Diannep mentioned is a newer one, like about 2 years old?  It has a hot breakfast: waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy (!!!), pastries, cereal, milk, juice, coffee.  The serve yourself breakfast opened at 6:00 am for the PIR on Friday. Their pool is an indoor one.  Very nice rooms with comfy beds!!

I called their manager to let them know that PIR has been changed for Wednesday, July 3rd and they will be adjusting their schedule to have their breakfast buffet open at 6:00 am that day.  They are really great!!

There's also a McDonald's right next to their parking lot and Sweet Tomatoe's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili's down the street from them.

Here's their info:
