Mammabird, Thank you. I was thinking Courtyard or Holiday Inn Express. They're both really nice. I wish I knew which airport he is flying out of to A school. We'd stay half-way between the airport and Great Lakes Thurs night thru Sat (or which ever day he flies out).

Mammabird,

Which hotel have you booked? I'm undecided. I need to book quick...

Christine:  I agree with ellen.  My son was able to class up within about 10 days after arriva at A Schooll....but then had a month 'hold" after he completed A School, waiting on orders, before he could begin his Leave.  So, no sense to try and guess at that.....

Comment by ellen0502 on June 14, 2015 at 7:03pm

Christine, It is pretty much impossible to even come up with an average wait time to class up. It all depends on classroom availability, number of Sailors waiting, how many are coming in with the next group arriving etc.

You might want to join this group too, as they may have a "guess" for you.

Devin,

Diannep is right about no Sailors flying out right after PIR.  It is the next day on Saturday that their flights leave.  You can aim to meet your Sailor at the airport (he should know which one at PIR) about the 2:00 am - 3:00 am time, give him his cell phone, cell phone charger, laptop, ac adapter, own comfy underwear, some casual attire that can fit into his Navy issued backpack or huge 50 lb seabag that he must carry himself, plus he has a garment bag with all his uniforms!  This time at the airport for me and my Sailor daughter and her younger sister was precious and memorable!!

By the way, my Sailor daughter flew out to Pensacola, FL via Midway Airport, but I've heard of others coming from O'Hare.  It's a 50/50 chance!

Here's your next A School group in Pensacola (clickable link) with a very helpful N4M veteran mom to answer all your questions!
