We have a division!!! Yay, I am super excited to get to know you all that have our SR's in the same division!

Please introduce yourselves! (no last names :)

I am Sharon. My daughter Erin is 21 and she came to bootcamp from Iowa. I live by myself, work as a dog groomer and I have a broken toe. I miss Erin so much but things are looking up! Got her form letter today. Got an 'I love you :) " on the back! I am so glad to know that Erin isn't alone. She is digging deep and working hard every day, and has your loved ones to help each other, learn from each other, and they are together in missing us like crazy too. And being a veteran, I know, their days are getting better each day too.

Next up.. our phone calls!! Next week? If not for sure the week after!. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Please friend me if ya want!

Hello,my name is Jennifer...My daughter Samantha left for Great Lakes on May 21st...I just recieved her form letter today, cryed my eyes out...im really gonna be a mess when I get an actual letter.....She will be graduating July 13th also...She is ship 3 div 217...Going to book my flight tonight and look into hotels. any suggestions?

Welcome Jennifer! I haven't looked at hotels yet. I should be doing that soon. I am lucky enough to be only 6 hour drive away so I don't have to worry about flights. I went to A school in Great Lakes many moons ago.. so I do know I want to be on the Waukegan side of things. I read here that Sarge's meet n greet is close by the waukegan hotels too.

Hey Sherri! No wonder we went for extra days not hearing anything.. they must have been held up waiting for the rest of their division to arrive!

Hi Sherri, Im so excited to hear from someone with a daughter in my daughters division....guess they probably havent had much time to talk?? I did exactly what you did with the letters..I had eight set aside and ran right to the mailbox. Wonder if we can send pictures? So nice to hear from you. Have you booked a flight or are you driving?

Hi Sharon, thankyou for replying... My husband went to RTC Orlando twenty years ago when Samantha was months old... Graduated in August.....really hot. I would also like to attend the Sarge's meeting...would love to meet you guys. Cant wait to hear from my baby girl....missing her smile like crazy...

I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon when our kids were sworn in.  It was great to get to meet you.  For everyone else my son will turn 20 one week after PIR.  It's been tough having him gone.  I just have to remember that I think this could be a good thing for him.  I just received his form letter today too.  I went straight to mail the letters I had going.  I'm so looking forward to his letters and calls.  PIR just seems so far away.  :(

I bought a few cards for my son just to send with his letters.  Some have yellow envelopes.  Oops...  I hope he don't get mad at me.  They are just thinking about you and missing you cards.  I better find some white envelopes so they don't stand out.  Yikes!

I GOT A PHONE CALL!!!! Erin called from BC to get security clearance stuff she didn't know.

Anyway.. the only information I got out of her is that today is only their 1-1 day!.

They are just NOW getting officially started.. they were in processing hold waiting for their division to fill and just finished their p-days. She also said that they will be sending out their first letters home this Sunday.

It was so good to hear her voice.

She sounded awesome! I know its been a long 2 weeks for them. I went to boot camp on Christmas Eve, 1984. Because of the holidays I was in p-hold for 2 weeks before we even started p-days. I mostly remember when we finally got to 1-1 day we were READY to rock n roll! It was very hard to see the other divisions marching around in their uniforms and just wanting to get started.  I know a lot has changed in 28 years, but I bet that emotion is universal through time. This is probably their first opportunity to get out of their sweats and pt gear. The extra wait just makes the pride that much more when you finally get to put on a REAL uniform.

Sharon - What is 1-1 day and what have they been doing the first 2 weeks?  I just don't know what everything means so I'm confused by it all??

they count their days by week (1) day (1). tmw is week (1) day (2) or, 1-2 day if you will. They dong count the weekends so next monday will be 1-4 day, tuesday 1-5.. then wednesday will be week (2) day (1). They actually only count up to 7-1 or 7-3 and then its time for pir.. so they have already started their "8" week bootcamp. the first week or so is processing. there is a link here somewhere that breaks down their activities by the week. I will try to find it.

hope this helps!
