Has anyone heard that their recruit has failed their fitness test? Isn't that final test toward the end of Basic?
TerrysProudMom: If they don't pass their final PFA (usually the run), then they will get several more chances to pass it before their PIR and then go through BattleStations with another division in their PIR group. They will then be at PIR. Some actually make it the day before PIR, then do BattleStations that night with the next PIR group, and are at their own PIR, in uniform, but in the balcony...too tired to march after being up all night.
Now...if they do not make it by then (there are several from the past 2 PIR groups that fall into that category and are still trying)...then they stay in FIT division which is where they go to work on their PFA requirements. They will work them hard and continue to "test" them until they do pass. At that time, they will go with the next BattleStations group scheduled, graduate in the capping ceremony the next morning (BattleStations is overnight)...and usually are then flown directly to their A School. This is the way it has been done in the past. One female sailor I know of stayed there 3 weeks after her PIR to pass her run. When she did, she did BattleStations, but no PIR for her...she flew directly to A School.
If they are asmoed for any reason and resume training with another PIR group, then they would be at that PIR. I did see one case where a gf said that her SR had passed his run (but missed his PIR) and was going to be allowed at the next week's PIR. But I had never heard of that before and didn't hear from her again.
There is always "change" in the Navy...from one moment to the next...so I never say never! Just the way it has been so far.
Someone in this group is going to be very happy :-) I have been working on the ribbons for this group and wanted you guys to see one of them. I hope you like them :-) I know you will wear them with pride to PIR and they will help you recognize other Navy for Mom members at the meet and greet as well as PIR. This one is done in gold and some others are done in silver. If you have sent me a message on N4M's and I have not responded within a few hours it probably means I didn't get the message. I have had a lot of problems with the email on this site. You can email me at: uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com Thanks :-)
I had seen that a 'graduate with her PIR group had become a sailor so now I'm confussed
DIANNEP: When you say that if they don't pass a test but then later do they will go through BS with another PIR group but won't PIR with them do you mean that they become a Sailor but they just never get the whole PIR experience? That would be a big let down after all that hard work.
In my phone conversation with my son on Friday, I specifically asked about the running, swimming, push ups and pull ups. He said he had passed all but the running on the initial test, saying he was a minute too slow. However, as was mentioned, they are practiced frequently on this stuff, and he told me as of Friday, he could now run a lap *further* than needed in *less* time than required. Big improvement. I imagine it's the same for the rest, generally speaking. No doubt, they are going to be in the best shape of their lives. Just wish I could get motivated to do the same! lol
