That would be awesome honestly I never even thought of her coming home the way we look at it she's on her own adventure to better our life's and I'm on a journey to live longer and enjoy that life.

Chris, Your surgery would be a whole other story while your wife is in A School. I would guess she would be allowed to submit a "special request/authorization chit" to go home for your surgery or a  couple of days after. Approval would depend on day of the week and where she is in schooling, etc., and it would be totally up to the CO, but it might/can happen.

Even if the chit is not approved, she would be probably allowed to call home, and most likely would be allowed to receive phone calls to the CO desk, even during the day while attending class. She would just need to talk to the CPO about it.

My brother had a heart valve replaced when my son was in A School, and that was considered "special circumstances." His CO allowed him to call me a couple of times during the surgery from his office, ask how surgery was going, and gave him a phone number at the school so I could call and get him out of class when the surgery was finished.

Total different scenario than that of your brother.

Yes we are feeling a little disappointed, really got used to those weekly calls. I had a thought today that maybe this was part of my basic training to get used to what it will be like when they are deployed. I feel for you though, its so much harder when there's an emergency and the person you would normally call , you can't. Hoping for tomorrow!

Thanks Ellen so I assume no one got phone calls from Division 248 today

Chris, Since your brother was not seriously injured, and it is not life threatening, it isn't considered an emergency. I know to your family it is (as well it should be), but to the Navy it isn't.

I know that is hard to hear, but there are some pretty strict guidelines on what is considered an emergency, and what they will interrupt training for. It will also carry on to A School, and the fleet, although you will have more contact with your Sailor.

Hugs to you and your family!

Chris, sorry to hear about your brother. I agree that not having contact with our recruits is one of the hardest things especially when  difficult circumstances arise . My recruit was able to call on a Sunday once, it was Fathers day. I am hoping you will get one tomorrow and will pray for continued healing for your brother, hang in there!

I don't agree with that a family emergency is a family emergency he's injured she needs to know about it
