Jaysmom - He's in div 250. I was so worried about his wisdom teeth also but he told me he didn't need them pulled. I understand how worried you are about that. All their lives when they got a tooth pulled or got hurt or they were sick we were there for them. It's hard  thinking they have to go through that without us being there for them. He's in my prayers Jaysmom. I've never prayed so much before than I have in these last few weeks. All these kids will be in my prayers tonight. goodnight

What division is your SR in? I'm glad you are more relaxed today. I feel better, except tomorrow he has to get 4 wisdom teeth pulled.

I'm so happy for you Jaysmom. i was laughing as I read your post because my son told me all the same stuff. how he did good on his PFA and went up to an E2, how some people just weren't getting the hang of it there. I am so much more relaxed too today since I received his call.

So glad it was such a great call, jaysmom!  Congrats!

Got my call this afternoon! Had been 2 weeks since I heard his voice. I had so many questions for him that our time flew by and before I knew it, half an hour had flown by and he had to go so he could call his dad. I didn't want to hang up. :( so proud of him though. He passed his first PFA and is now he is an E2. Passed his swim test. Said they were running one day last week and got caught out in a hail storm. He just laughed about it. He said everyone is great but a few that haven't quite got the hang og things yet, but hopefully soon it will work out. Feels like hardest part is over and things are getting a little more relaxed. I miss him so much it's unreal.

Bree's mom what division is your daughter in?

JackRussellMom:  Great idea to take piks of the clothes, send them and let him maybe mark a "check" on the ones he wants.  Is his A School going to be long?  My son's was short so he didn't want any civies....he ended up just purchasing a few items while there at the NEX to hold him until he got home on Leave to collect his clothes (he was in A School for 3 mos).

Comment by ellen0502 on June 14, 2015 at 11:33am

Alex's Mom, Ask your recruit what civies he may want. It will be a while before he can wear them. Perhaps a couple pair of jean, boxers, and two or three t-shirts. T-shirts that are white or black (include navy also) cannot be worn if the do not have something printed on them. The shirts cannot be mistaken for undershirts), so he will not be allowed to wear plain white t-shirts other than while in uniform.

As far as a laptop, you might want to let your sailor find his own laptop, and buy if for him if that's what you want to do. I am sure he will be wanting a computer while in school and in the fleet.

RoseMarie, I think the only ratings requiring "perfect vision" without glasses are in spec ops and pilots (not for sure though)). The others will have "corrected vision" (with glasses) requirements that have to be met.

Comment by RoseMarie on June 14, 2015 at 10:29am
Not sure if anyone knows the answer to this but my son wears glasses n contact lenses. Are there are jobs in the Navy that he cannot do because he doesn't have perfect vision?
