I haven't received a letter yet from my son.  I stalk the mail carrier every day, lol.

Good Afternoon! Still no letter today for me from my son, anyone else get a letter? About SARGE'S  meet and greet I did some research on NavyforDads (hey why not) and they had a little write up about Sarge. About how he does this meet and greet free of charge and he only asks for a donation to help out with the food. His wife does the baking and he does all these meet and greets out of the goodness of his heart. It was very interesting. I'm hoping to meet a lot of you there. I think he also does shuttle for many of the hotels. Our Navy for Moms site that we are on is much better but if you are like me and are looking for info from anywhere possible you should check out the NavyforDads site there was some interesting stuff there too. Hope everyone is hanging in there today. :)

RoseMarie:  My son is giong to A school in Meridian, also.  :)

Good Morning!

RoseMarie:  My son went to Meridian MS for A School back in early 2010.  He liked it there, but didn't like that most in his class were "held" for several weeks after completion before they could go on Leave!  But it happens sometimes...."holding" in the Navy, to start classes, after finishing classes.....all very normal!

When my son left Bootcamp, their flight was delayed a couple of times.  By the time they finally took off, they were going to miss their connection in ATL.  Delta put them up for a night in a hotel...uh oh....new sailors, cooped up in Bootcamp for weeks, now on the loose in ATL!  :-)  Yes, they had rules to follow and one in their group was "in charge" but still.  You will find when you go to PIR that they are very worried about breaking any rules when on Liberty with you....they have been threatened big time with what "could happen" if they are caught breaking any rules.  Even my son, who didn't always color inside the lines as a child, was paranoid on Liberty to do the right thing!  He said they were threatened with being held at Bootcamp longer before heading to A School, and they sure want to get out of Bootcamp!

MamaCeCe, Your son must also be able to carry everything he has by himself, he already has a sea bag, a garment bag, and a back pack. Packed in that would be all of his uniforms, outerwear, boots, towels, etc., anything the Navy has issued to him. This stuff alone weighs 80+ pounds.

Everything he has in A School will travel with him to C School (ET or FC both have C School), and he must carry it. After C School he can come home on leave before leaving for his permanent duty station, and again everything he has must go with him.

He will find out quickly there is a difference between what he wants, what he needs, and what he is willing to carry that isn't Navy issued.

Rolling laughter

Thank you so much ellen0502 I guess that huge suitcase he packed before he left was pointless. :)
Thanks for the advice!

RoseMarie, Sarges meet and greet is at a bar, but the bar itself is closed to the general public for the M&G, so all ages are allowed. It is "kid" friendly. :)

MamaCeCe, Ask your son if he would like you to bring any civies with you to PIR. He may want a couple pair of his favorite jeans, lounge pants, boxers :), and a couple t-shirts. He probably won't want much more than that, and he may even have changed sizes while in BC.

If you take t-shirts, any shirt that is white, black or navy blue must have some sort of printing on it. The shirts they wear out may not appear to be their Navy underwear. If in doubt make sure something is printed on the front.

Jeans cannot be tattered, torn, patched, and the leg bottoms cannot touch the ground. Yep...even rules for their civilian clothes. :)
