WeeHaw! So many question.

Classic Happy Smiley Face

Dana, RoseMarie and kellysue, There is lots to do after PIR, you can take the train into Chicago for a few hours (since your Sailor flies out), there is time for that. You can also go have a nice lunch or dinner. Your Sailor might just want to hang in the hotel, and take a long shower, one that isn't ten minutes long, and taken with 80 other guys, change out of his Navy issued tighty-whities, and put on some nice boxers.

Rolling laughter

Ask if there is anything specifically he wants to do, then make your plans.

jennifer12470 and jaysmom, Having wisdom teeth removed will not delay graduation. The Navy removes hundreds (OK thousands) of them. Your recruit will have a couple SIQ days (sick in quarters), a couple more LLD (light limited duty), and pain meds. Many recruits think of it as a vacation from BC. Time they get in SIQ and for LLD generally depends on how many, and how "hard" they were to take out. :)

Mom8991, I am so sorry to hear that your recruit is being sent home. Let him know he needs to listen to everything they tell him. He may still have the option to try again, have it looked at again etc.

Katie and MissingMyKing, Like jaysmom said, they do have to go back to base each night. There is no longer overnight liberty PIR weekend for the Sailors. What time they need to be back varies, but is  usually sometime between 8pm-10pm. It doesn't matter if they are flying out for A School or staying in GL.

janetmarie63, Extras may be able to watch PIR from the Chapel, but it is still asked that extras remain at the hotel. It is not a guarantee that they will get to view from the chapel, and if it happens they cannot stay, and they must return to the hotel. Most hotels are now showing the livestream for those who can't get in at PIR. The chapel isn't far from the drill hall, but extra guests cannot walk anywhere on their own, they will be "escorted." Here is a link to the rules for guests.

Family Guide

Sindy0379, How much time you will have with your Sailor depends on a couple of things.

Those Sailors flying out will be able to leave after PIR (unless they have pulled duty), and need to be back on base somewhere between 8-10pm.

Those staying in GL for A School will have part of Friday, they have to move to the TSC side before liberty, which takes several hours, then they have until sometime between 8-10pm. On Sat and Sun the Sailors staying in GL will have liberty sometime after 6am 10pm. The liberty times can vary, PIR to PIR, and even just ship to ship, butyour Sailor will be briefed on the times.

So glad to hear everyone received letters! I haven't yet, but my husband called yesterday, he earned the privilege so I was sooo excited to hear from him. He said he will send out his first batch of letters on Sunday!

I think how much time we get with them depends on if they are staying in Great Lakes for A School or not.  My son has to go to CT so from what I have read he will be flying out Saturday morning.  I think he has to be back on base Friday night somewhere around 8 pm or so

Jennifer, I got lucky. I got two pages!!  He knows how worried I am about him, so he probably knows to give me a little something.

Sindy - we are at the Navy Lodge.  That's good to know about the people that can watch it across the street, because we have a lot of extras coming

Comment by Kate 55 on June 11, 2015 at 6:46pm
And there is no limit to how many people can watch it there

Janetmarie I believe it's right across the streer

Jaysmom my son has to have his wisdom teeth out too. He didn't date his letter so not sure when or any other info. He's a man of few words TO ME, lol. So I got about 4 sentences.

my son said that extra guests can view graduation from another room. Does anyone know how far that is from the actual graduation hall?

Comment by jaysmom on June 11, 2015 at 6:08pm

Well just read my letter from my son.  It was dated June 4th. That was a week ago. He said that he has to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled this week.  I am guessing that it has already probably happened.  So then he gets 2 days?

Good news is he said that his division has a chance to earn a phone call home every Sunday.  Guess they didn't earn it last Sunday though.  Said he has made lots of friends. Said the penicillin shot hurt like you know what. Glad I heard from him, now a little worried about how the pulling of his wisdom teeth went, yikes.  I keep hearing a lot of moms saying their kids had to have teeth pulled though. Probably be a group of them sitting out for a couple of days.

I received a letter yesterday, his father and sister did as well, I think we were all pretty excited to say the least. Can't stop reading. Was so glad to hear he met a friend right off the bat, makes me feel better. He is Ship 13 Div 245. So cannot wait till the 24th. I too am wondering about things to do with him after PIR? Ideas?
