Thanks Diannep :) I was so tired I just didn't pay attention to the pillows. There was another one in the closet that I could have used. It wasn't too bad yesterday but this morning (at home) I woke up with my eyes burning and pouring water. My left eye really hurts and is very red. Of course looking at the computer screen isn't helping it. I don't know if it has anything to do with the feathers or if maybe I just got something in my eye. Cold water compress is the only thing that helps :(

CatMom brings up a good point....with all of the luggage they are responsible for, and they must carry this themselves, please do not bring extra bags for your sailor to carry to A School.  You can bring personal items that they can consolidate into their existing luggage and ship the remainder of personal items to them once they are at A School.

Good Morning!

Oh, the seabag and garment bag are checked in.  They keep their Navy backpack with them and drop them off at the USO for safekeeping.   It's a wonder the Sailors don't get their backpacks mixed up when they come back to get them before going to their boarding gates~~

Yep, diannep, I was there!!  We arrived at 2:00 am and the Sailors had probably been there about a half an hour.  The USO guy was sharing all kinds of stuff and taking the groups up to the ticket counter according to the flights leaving first.. We didn't mind hanging around a distance away and my Sailor daughter could come over to chat with us, then we were released to wander a little bit to the only snack place open at Midway before 6:00 am.  The earliest group of Sailors to leave had a flight about 6:30 am.  I think they were processed at the ticket counter about 5:00 am, so those parents had the least amount of time with their Sailors.  My daughter's group got processed about 5:30 am and the parents follow right after their Sailor's group to get the Gate Pass.  Your Sailor comes back to stand in line with you.  You must all have valid id.  We got through security clearance, then ran around the real eating places and gift shops!!  We got to stay with my daughter until 10:30 am when she boarded her 11:00 am flight.  I would aim for 3:00 am to get the most time with your Sailor, especially if they have an early flight~~  My daughter left from Midway to go to Pensacola for IT training!

Here's a pic of my daughter's group ready to go to the counter to get their boarding passes and the rest of the Sailors waiting around.  Note the heavy seabag they have to carry themselves, plus their garment bag, Navy backpack, covers (hats), and paperwork.:

cynthiag:  They are in a group at the airport....the USO is there to help organize them and get them all checked in.  I believe CatMom was there to witness this when her daughter went through....once they have checked in, they are yours until they leave!  I think CatMom suggested that people get there no earlier than 3 or 4 a.m. because that is about the time they have to check in.  Correct me if I'm wrong, CatMom!

Sadly, when my son was up there over 4 yrs ago, I was not real active on this site and had no clue that we could meet the sailors at the airport.  To make matters worse, my son's flight was delayed....twice, so we could have had a few extra hours with him.  Sigh....as it was, we thought he was gone and so my older son and I were doing some sightseeing.  Live and learn!

cynthiag,

Many SRs also like some of their own comfy underwear and bring a set of comfy clothes for him to relax in the hotel room in after his nice long private shower!!
