Thank you Diannep and Lala Ribbon Queen! For the information! I am flying out Sunday morning, so whenever his flight is Sat I will be there to meet him and give him his cell phone! Perfect! Thank you! Do they travel as a group or can he wait outside security till I get there and park the car and walk up to the airport?
Sorry, just now saw that Lala had already answered your questions, cynthiag! So, now you have the same info from 2 sources! So it must be correct, right? :-)
cynthiag: So great that you live right there near his A School! I have a feeling that when they phase up and can leave the base, you may not only have your own sailor home, but some of his buddies too! I know that would be enjoyable for all!
cynthiag: They won't actually fly out on Friday night, but they will be bussed to wait for flights late that night. The first flights usually start around 6 a.m. on Saturday. But sometimes a few won't leave until Sunday, so that is why if families can stay until late Sat. night of even Sunday, they won't miss time with their new sailors if that happens.
Yes, you can meet your sailor at the airport and give him/her personal items that need to fit in their backpack. That would include cellphones and laptops if they want them.
They will not know their flight schedules until right before PIR.
Hope all are having a great weekend!
Lala: I'm so sorry about the feather pillows! Some hotels will give you others if you are allergic. Did you ask if your hotel had the option? The other option is to always travel with YOUR OWN PILLOW! HA! I always have done that....hope you feel better soon! Safe travel!
Good morning everyone, hitting the road this morning with the rental truck and heading back home to the mountains. This was the quickest trip to the beach ever and the hotel had feather pillows. UGGGG I can't breathe lol
Lynn,
When someone gets "set back," they are being ASMOED (Assignment Memorandum) and put back into another group behind them. This could happen due to failing any portion of their required training or for attitude adjustments~~ If he is doing fine, as per his girlfriend, you have nothing to worry about~~
Hi all, I finally got a chance to get on here. It's been a busy crazy week. I got all my work finished early and we are now in Wilmington moving our daughter back home from college. Quick trip here today and heading home first thing tomorrow. I wish we had more time so we could spend a day at the beach :)
Is everyone ready for PIR? I know it seems like a long way off but it won't be long at all until you are there :)
cynthiag, they leave in the wee hours, around 2-3 am to go from the base to the airport but that is actually just very early Saturday morning. So you should be able to meet at the airport and depending on the time of the flight be able to spend more time with them there. Most of the flights don't actually start until around 6 am and can really be anytime that day. A few may not even fly out until Sunday. It just depends on the flights available. They will not know exactly when their flight is until after they pass battle stations and get their orders in their hands. By this time many parents are already on their way to PIR. Of course with you being close to A-school you may be able to meet him at the airport there but the timing would have to be perfect and a stroke of luck if you are going to PIR. It will probably be at least a week and maybe a little longer before you could see him at A-school.
