Hello All!
"We who have fled to Him for refuge
can take new courage, for we can hold
on to His promise with confidence."
Hebrews 6:18
Good morning! I have added some information in the "Pages" from Sarge. Please take a minute to read it.
The pages are located on the right side under the member photos.
Craig: Why does booking 30 days ahead of time guarantee that civilians staying at Navy Gateway can roam the base without their sailor? Does it give the Gateway time to check out their background? Would that be the reason that it has to be 30 days in advance?
Good Morning All !
This is good to know, Craig!
Do you have a sailor staying in Great Lakes for "A" school after PIR?
AND
do you have only 2 people going to PIR?
I just got back from the PIR on June 13th. I'm a very vocal advocate of the Navy Lodge for hotel recommendation. However, I have one exception now. It's the Navy Gateway inn which is located on Naval Station Great Lakes. Some will tell you that only active duty can sponsor you in. This is incorrect. IF, you book lodging at the Gateway Inn as a normal civilian (ie you don't have a military ID (CAC) card), AND you book at least 30 days prior to your date of arrival, then you can come and go on base without having your sailor with you. You can enter and exit the base as you please.
The Gateway Inn (Bldg 62) is really nice, however they only have one queen size beds. This limits the guest to 2. Some rooms have a pull out couch but it's not guaranteed, but if you do get one, then you can have 4 to a room.
So what is the benefit over the Navy Lodge?
- If you request a room in the main complex (Bldg 62) on the 4th or 5th floor, AND, you request an "odd" numbered room, then you will get the full Lake Michigan view. It's outstanding!
- The Gateway inn is located on the hill above "Nunn Beach". Your sailor would love to put on their PT gear and/or Swim suit and go to the Beach. The Beach is outstanding.
- If your sailor is attending "A" school at Great Lakes, they just have to walk to your hotel room. All the barracks are really close to the hotel.
You can book a room at the Gateway by calling: 1-877-NAVY-BED
(Remember you need to call at least 30 days in advance so they can run the back ground check on you).

The big water trikes you can rent of $5 per hour. We didn't do it, but it looks like a bunch of fun....
...I should add that there is a Six Flags close by so the hotels book up quickly during the summer.
Other good hotels, recommended by others on this site, are:
Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express. Close to Sarge's MeetandGreet....4-5 miles from base. Others have liked Homewood Suites, a little further away. Do not wait on booking hotels! Book directly with them if possible...not penalty then if you cancel the day before or day of if need be. Travel discount sites may not be so lenient with that. Be sure to call the hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.
Good Day, Friends!
"The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make His face shine upon you,
and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up
His countenance upon you, and give you peace."
