My son is in division 229, and we are counting down the days!  We received our first letter from him and he sounded like he was doing great.  We have purchased our plane tickets, but I'm not sure what hotel to choose.  Every one that I checked within a 5 mile radius did not have very good reviews!  If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!  Thank you!

We are staying at the Navy Great Lakes Lodge for $65.00 a night which includes taxes. It is about 1 1/2 miles from the base.

Thank you!!  It looks like we'll be there or Ramada....I'm making my husband make final decision! lol

I know what you mean about the hotels.  Our son is in Div 229, as well, and we're hard-pressed to find a decent hotel within 5 miles of the base, too.  I originally booked the Red Carpet Inn, because it is so close to base, but I found that it was reported on bedbugregistry.com...Ugh!  So, I made a reservation at Ramada, which didn't have very good reviews, either, but at least it's not on the bed bug registry, and apparently, they have a nice meet-and-greet for the recruits and families.  There was nothing available at the Navy Lodge by the time I called there.  So, what did you decide, Ramada or the Navy Lodge?  I just hope someone can tell me that Ramada is okay!

We ended up choosing the Days Inn.  We got a great discount, and I am hoping its clean and bedbug free!!!  The reviews weren't great, but not horrible.  I stressed and stressed over where to stay, and finally just went with one of my original choices.  I was worried everything was being booked and if I waited to long there wouldn't be any rooms.  Oh, and from what I've read the Ramada looks great!

Really surprised that there aren't better hotels in the area, especially given the steady business they get from Great Lakes graduations.

I completely agree!!!  My husband was very surprised once I made him look at some of the reviews.  He thought I was being dramatic lol.
