~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good Morning All !
Cindylouwho, Check in to taking the airport shuttle from O'Hare to Midway to meet your sons girlfriend, Coach USA fare posted is $23. Then take either a hotel shuttle (if they have one), or the train to where your hotel is. Ground transportation is widely available,.
I forgot to mention my SR is staying in GL for training.
@Catmom-
A rental car probably won't work for me at this stage. I can't afford for the rental company to put a hold on any of my funds.$229 plus the deposit hold will suck up everything I have saved up.
I promised my son I would take care of his girlfriend. Her parents depend on me to help her through this. It's been that way from the get go. Her parents are how I would describe as sticklers. It's a pretty big trip by herself, too. She's a small town girl (literally) and it's a lot for her to manage completely on her own. I'm leaving no room for mishaps or for her getting lost. I'd never hear the end of it if something happened to her along the way.
She probably has her dad helping match whatever she can come up with for plane fare. She is more than likely working part time since she is still in school. I think I'll just email Sarge and see how to work all of that out. My original plan was to have her take a cab from Midway to Ohare. And then we'd utilize the shuttle to the hotel.
Under any other type of circumstances I'd probably full heartedly agree with letting her handle the transportation issue on her own. But in this instance she's only 17 and her parents and I already had an understanding from the get go that I would be the "responsible adult party" whenever she is with us. She has some fairly particular parents who stress that issue. I think it started when they allowed her to drive her dad's new truck 3 hours away to come visit us here at the house. I've spoken with them and it's just a mutual understanding that she'll be stuck to my hip until she's 18 whenever she comes to see us or travels with us. I'd never hear the end of it if something happened. From either my SR or her parents.
I appreciate the tips though.
cindilouwho65,
Your SR's girlfriend works, so I think she should be able to pay for herself to get to the Residence Inn in Waukegan. She should be responsible enough to handle her airfare and getting herself to the hotel at least. This should be a priority for her if she wants to be there for him, but if she can't swing it, don't worry about it. Most 17 year olds normally don't have the funds to pay for a $300 plus roundtrip airfare anywhere on their own without help from their parents.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car took my debit card no problem. I didn't have to have a credit card. Their phone number is on my Pertinent PIR Tips up above along with a coupon for a vehicle upgrade. You can get a car rental, then she takes and pays for a shuttle to the hotel herself. Hopefully she will be listening to you which day to fly out and you can drop her off to Midway before you take yourself to Chicago O'Hare. Renting a car is definitely the cheaper way for you to go as the shuttles will be pretty pricey. Do you happen to know where your SR will be heading to A school? That can give you a clue as to which airport he most likely will be flying out of.
While I'm looking forward to PIR? The transportation part of this after I get there is turning into a logistical nightmare! SR's girlfriend hasn't bought her plane tickets yet. Hopefully Tues.. She's working. I fly into Ohare. She may have no choice but to fly into Midway no matter how she slices it. The hotel is Residence Inn in Waukegan. A good hop from both airports. BUT close to RTC..
Getting her and myself to the hotel from two airports and she is only 17? Is turning into a headache for me. Originally the plan was for me to fly to Wichita to meet my other older daughter there? And drive her car to GL. Hence transportation would be easier to accomplish. But she had to work. I'm not taking my younger daughter *his younger sister* after all. Finances wouldn't allow it. She instead will be watching our two cats, and taking over my other job here on property while I'm gone. (Good thing I'm on such good terms with the property manager my boss here!*).
Soooo.......Now it's just me and SR's 17 year old girlfriend going. She can't get any flights in or out of Ohare at this point from Orlando. Driving 3 hours here to fly out of Tampa with me same flight? Seems a little out of reach as well. And impractical. I live 40 minutes from the airport as it is. I have to leave out of here at 3 am my time that morning, by cab,,,,,that'll cost me some $$$. I COULD ask boyfriend to take me since he hardly sleeps and that cures that issue. (I'm still debating on that.)
Needless to say Taylor has to be with me for SR's graduation or he will be heart broken. He misses her! Not saying he doesn't miss me? he does. But it's his girlfriend. He knows I'll be there for sure. I already wrote to him and told him the flight #'s and times I'll be in Chicago and where we are staying. One less worry for him. He was counting on me there. Mission accomplished! Thanks to some angels! :) But the whole transportation thing inbetween two airports and getting to the hotel and to PIR is becoming a headache! I KNOW when I'm coming in to give that info to Sarge. BUT I have no idea when Taylor will be in. If she makes it at all. AND if she does? How to get her to Ohare so we can go to Marriott together. AND to PIR together. AND back. If it was just me it would be easier to navigate.
I've already decided getting to the hotel and staying put is a must. I'll be exhausted and will want a nap. I want to go to the meet and greet. I NEED to be at PIR early like everyone else the next day. I'm a stickler for punctuality. I can't rent a car. No credit card. The biggest expense is getting to the hotel and back from the airport. There will be two of us and I can't afford Sarge's shuttle to both airports and the hotel and PIR too.
So I need some idea of how to navigate this now. My SR has to have a "buddy" with him for liberty. So I will just wait at the visitor's center for him? I'm on a tight budget. I know waiting around for 5 hours seems ridiculous. I have a phone with internet on it and can read a book or something! lol) But he can't be without a "buddy" right? I'm sure he'll help pay for the transportation back and forth from the base. Because he will not want to be late getting back to his barracks. We're OCD on punctuality to a flaw! lol Its a new place. Big place and he doesn't know his way around yet. Taking a cab back and forth for his liberty will be ok. We do not plan on leaving the hotel to go sight seeing. We have time for that later on and he has a friend that lives in Chicago anyway. I could care less personally. I live in the area of where RNC was and now Bollywood Awards are coming to town! Plus all the excitement of Hollywood filming movies over the summer *(Winter and of course Selena Gomez's new movie). I'm content with my little out of the way house near the beach away from all that excitement. ha ha ha ha ha
Hi Lala!
That all depends on baby Eastyn's schedule--I don't think any of my 3 daughters arrived on their original due dates!! So exciting to look forward to though~~
I love coming to this group :) I look at your countdown clock and copy and paste it and send it to my Sailors. Your PIR is the due date for their first baby, a girl and my first grandbaby. So excited, I can hardly stand it lol. 25 more days, if we make it that long <3
