Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I realize this now that it'll be worth it in the end because he was an honor recruit and is setting himself up nicely to rank up faster and before I left today he said, I might be doing this for me but I'm doing this for us too.

Comment by Erin&Justin on August 8, 2015 at 10:24pm: Thanks guys. I'd been gone for 5½ months and I just didn't know how to feel after I saw him and got to spend time with him. The little rules with everything has made it a little hard for us to spend time together and I didn't expect this. I guess that's the military though! I think that I'll get used to it, I only live 6 hours away.

Comment by diannep on August 8, 2015 at 10:38am: Erin: The Navy pretty much "owns" your sailor....their needs come first. Having said that, they understand that sailors have families and are not totally heartless... but it takes great strength and independence from family members of military personne to make this workl. SO hang in there and be a great support to your sailor....he will need this from you and it is the greatest gift you can ever give him! In A School, communication is back....phones, computers, even visits if you can do that. If your sailor pulls shore duty in this country, another good thing. But just be flexible....because it is tough! But so very rewarding!
