~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We enjoyed our PIR weekend so much! Couple of things. Try very hard to get into Chicago area before 3 pm if driving. We wound up getting to Sarge's at 8 because we didnt get to hotel until 7 & had to unload, check in, & change clothes. We couldn't hear him b/c we had to hang around the back. Also, if having trouble understanding him, stand on the dance floor...really clear acoustics there.
Regarding which gate for PIR, we stayed at Navy Lodge and fou nd taking Martin Luther King dr was fast & easy. It takes you straight to the gate.
We also received several thank yous at the airport for my son's service. however, I am from St Louis and we attended the Cards/Cubs game. My hubby walks with a cane and my son was in uniform. Unfortunately, we bought bleacher seats and nobody would let my son and his fiance sit (standing room only because we got there an hour after game time. One guy started chanting "LET HIM SIT", but didn't do us any good. There were even 3 ladies with there feet propped on an empty section & the refused to move their feet for them to sit. OH IF YOU GO TO CUBS GAME, BE SURE TO TAKE AT LEAST ONE TOWEL FOR YOUR SAILOR TO SIT ON. DONT WANT TO DIRTY THE WHITES
Luckily, a friend (used to live in st louis) was at the game, found us, & took us to her section where there were a few seats.
We left game 7th inning because we were losing badly, and took my sailor to the hotel so he could have a "REAL" shower. We knew he wouldnt get another shower until the next evg in goose creek. He was so ecstatic to actually be dry after his shower (their bc towels dont dry much). He was very appreciative of his down time before we dropped him at the base at 8 pm.
Try to get a nap between 8 & 12 because you need to meet your SR at 1 am at USO (terminal 2) if he has a morning flight. It was a long night, but we treasured every moment.
Finally, my husband walks with a cane & it is a huge strain walking from parking lot & through a large airport. We had to park in the garage near elevators instead of daily parking....no provisions that time of night to help him. The elevator you want for terminal 2 is Center 3.
I hope you were able to take a couple of things from this to add to your information for other PIR families in the future.

Thanks for the info, Margavant! Very helpful! I'm so sorry you never received your I'm a Sailor call. I know that the PAO says that if a sailor will not graduate, he/she will call you. So they say if you got no call, you should go to PIR. However, this just backfired on a person from the previous week's PIR. They never received any call, flew all the way from CA, and were told that their SR had not graduated (when they arrived to attend PIR) and no, they couldn't see their SR. They were asked if they received a call from their SR saying that they were not going to graduate (hadn't past the run), and they said no. Seemed very unfair to me that the family was not contacted....I had been told a long time ago that the SRs have a choice on whether they call families to say they hadn't passed their PFA. The reason given that some wouldn't call: they were sad that they didn't pass and didn't want to disappoint. And....many were thinking that they WOULD pass before PIR (many do, after they have made that call) so they didn't want to disappoint.

Call the Photo Lab tomorrow 847 578 6205 about ordering the DVD. As far as seeing the pictures, your sailor didn't order any? You can ask at this number about them also.

Thank you so much, Admins, for your dedication to this site. PIR weekend was amazing and I knew exactly what was going on to make it the perfect weekend thanks to the tips here! I do have a question...where can we see pictures and order a DVD of the ceremony?

I found that most of the info was correct, however I would like to add some observations. I was very prepared for it to be cold like I had heard ahead of time but we sat in the top bleacher row and it was actually warm up there. I knew when I walked in to look for my son's division but we could not sit in front of his division because that is where the dignitaries sat. My son was 305 and we had to sit in front of 307, and we were there early. You were correct to advise that people arrive early. Ladies bathroom was downstairs, not a problem for me but perhaps for some it might be. Lastly I would like to say that not everyone gets the I am a sailor call. Since everything in boot camp went as clockwork, the 5 second call, the form letter etc. I was greatly disappointed and a slight bit worried when I did not receive that call. Maybe try not to stress that so much.

We had an awesome weekend with our sailor. I couldn't be more proud. He was still my funny son. Making jokes sharing his experiences with us. I am sure I felt the the same emotions and pride as all the other families. Congratulations to div 307! Now they are on to the next phase of this exciting journey. And I hope to continue to share this amazing journey with you all. GOD BLESS AMERICA and GOD BLESS OUR SERVICEMEN!
