~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I had a rental and decided to take Sarge's shuttle to make my life easier and it did!! Like diannep, I was picked up at 6:30 am, arrived about 6:45 am, inside the hall about 7:00 am and almost all of the top row on the bottom bleachers against the wall were taken--except for 2 spot for my daughter and I!! Bottom of bleachers were another favorite area taken up.
So, I would say to be at the gate by 6:30 am or have Sarge pick you up by 6:00 am or 6:15 am if you want first dibs on either of those 2 sections. Otherwise, you will have middle bleachers and the upper level bleachers to choose from.
Oh, Lala, isn't that the way of the Navy? Hope for your Sailor to be close to you and they end up across the country!! Daina is graduating Pensacola in IT today and we all hoped she would get San Diego as her first duty station--nope, she is going to Norfolk!! I'm in Southern California~~
It's a little worse for you though because of baby Eastyn~~ (HUG), Lala...
Thank you .. Proud Mom .. Will do :)
SailorWife: We have heard good things about both. Just read on last Friday's PIR group where someone parked in the train parking lot (right next to RTC). She said they got out of there quickly while the line of cars to get off base was very long and slow. So that is another suggestion if you drive.
I just didn't want to be bothered with driving onto the base so our shuttle experience was good. We had no problem picking one back up at the front gate after PIR....and our family was actually the only one on it so we had nice personal attention/lots of info from the driver.
Bottom line? There are pros and cons to both! :-)
SailorWife: For those driving, you will need to be in the car line early. Now, Sarge will have some "hints" for those driving at his MeetandGreet....like staying to the left and bypassing RTC, turning around in the train parking lot, and heading back to RTC from the other direction....turning left into the gate without so much problem.
There are 13 divisions in this group which means it is a large group. The RTC gates do open at 6:30....the PIR Hall at 7, I believe. (It will take you a while to get through security and walk over to PIR Hall).
For those taking a shuttle from a hotel, you will bypass the car line so you won't have to wait as long. We were on the 6:30 shuttle from our hotel, arrived at 6:40, went through security, and arrived at the PIR Hall a little after 7. Had 9 divisions in our group, but there were already a good amount of people in the PIR hall and the "desirable" top bleacher seats (leaning against a wall) were already taken, as was most of the first row.
Just saying....you won't regret being early. You can take your breakfast with you if you want and you can purchase coffee, etc there---check your camera settings when there (my piks came out dark because I didn't do this) PIR starts at 9 a.m. but there are pre-ceremony things going on and just people watching is fun!
OHhhhh......Lala. I'm so very sorry.....although I bet they will love CA, being so far away....so hard. Thank goodness for SKYPE, and hopefully so nice LEAVE to come back home!
kristyenglish: Sarge's shuttle will take you from Navy Lodge to PIR. Just give him a call or text: 847 212 0246 You need to set it up ahead of time...he will have a sign up sheet at his MeetandGreet though. If you decide to drive, it is only about a mile or so from RTC.
Thanks so much everyone :)
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I found out this afternoon that my son-in-law got his orders for the spring and he, my daughter/Sailor and new grandbaby will be moving to California. I have been pretty upset all afternoon. I know it could be worse but for me right now that seems like a million miles away :(
GregsMom it is not too late, I just sent you the link. Thanks so much. I look forward to making your ribbons and having something to distract me.
