OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Meant to say that my friend stayed at Courtyard.

Comment by diannep on August 3, 2013 at 3:32pm

The Courtyard is in a great location too.  Restaurants and a nice Walmart right there.  Sarge's MeetandGreet is very close by.  Springhill Suites and Residence Inn are in the area as well....Holiday Inn Express is not far away either.  All good hotels.  My friend stayed there and really liked it (indoor pool too, I think).  We stayed at Residence and enjoyed that as well.

@Holli-we are also staying at Courtyard by Marriot for the same reason. Looks nice. I hope it lives up to the pictures I see online.

Yes, shello:  A man's ego is very sensitive....so let's just keep our info here to ourselves!  :-)  We know that N4Moms rules!

Honor Recruits are selected for each division.  I believe they are voted on by the SRs themselves?  And you SHOULD be very proud that he was nominated!  That in itself is an honor!  If he is not an Honor Recruit, he won't be recognized at PIR, but so what?  You know he was nominated and that's what counts!

Here are yesterday's Honor Recruits:

One more thing...he said, "You think you know EVERYTHING just because you are on NavyForMoms!"  I have just started to play dumb so he can inform ME.  haha

Comment by shello63 on August 3, 2013 at 1:58pm

Can someone explain the Honor Recruits? Or send me where to find the info?  My son was nominated, but didn't get it.  However, I am just as proud as if he did!!  Will he be recognized anyway at PIR?  He has done so well.  I can't wait to see him!!  I feel like I did at the BEGINNING of boot camp.  I keep crying for no reason, and I am NOT a big crier!  LOL  HURRY UP PIR!

Comment by Holli on August 3, 2013 at 1:50pm

Just had to post that I GOT A LETTER, as everyone knows, I have been whining this week that I didn't get one.  So HAPPY, he's doing great and can't wait for bootcamp to be over and he made me laugh because he said bring lots of goodies for when we hang out at the hotel, I miss snacks, ha ha
