N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

2tymeNavyMom- Thank you!  The news that others can be added to a different SR's list is keeping us going.  We have a split family and our SR's mom, his dad and I and his 2 half brothers (my dear sons) all anticipate going - leaving anyone behind is not an option :-(  Really want our 2 younger sons to experience the revelry of PIR!

stacystu,

Don't give up hope of his brother coming.  Other SR's maybe able to put your son on their list if they don't have 3 people coming.  It happened at my daughters graduation.

When I talked to my son Saturday, he said four iof us could come to PIR. Now it is only three? I really wanted his 11 year old brother to come :(. Now someone will also have to stay home with him.  That is really too bad.

GregsMom,

As soon as you get your Form letter confirming the 08/16/2013 PIR date, or if you really think this is your PIR group based on any info the recruiter gave you, you can make your reservation.  There is no deposit required to make a reservation, so it is easy to cancel and change hotels or dates if you want.

The popular hotels appear to be

     Springhill Suites

     Residence Inn

     Courtyard by Marriot

     Holiday Inn Express

All in Waukegan/Gurnee about 15 min from RTC.  Also, the Navy Lodge, where you would make your reservation under your SR's name. Clean, bag breakfast, no pool.

GregsMom,

You can probably make reservations now but I would make sure you buy the flight cancellation insurance if you do.  Not that we don't think our kids will make their PIR dates but just in case they get injured or are held back for some reason.

We stayed at the Residence Inn in Waukegan for my daughters graduation.  It had a small kitchenette so we could prepare some of our meals and saved some money.  Actually I think we just baked cookies and junk food but it was nice.  I know some moms mentioned it to us because their kids wanted home cooked meals.  Can't blame them, LOL.

At what point should I make reservations and where are most Mom's staying?

Comment by ellen0502 on July 1, 2013 at 2:42pm

The divisions for this TG have been posted by the RTC, 299-310 and 940. Since there are 13 divisions only 3 guests allowed at PIR.  :(

I will be starting your division discussion sometime this evening.

Thanks, diannep!  Nice to meet you too, joshmom!  licis gramma, my son was sick when he called too.  He said, "Eh, everyone is sick.  I'll make it."  Haha.  When I asked if it was hard, he said "It's not easy!"  He did sound really great though, and i was so lucky I got the call.  I was on vacation and had JUST grabbed my phone before being out of phone range for the next five  hours!  It was so great to hear his voice.  He said others were receiving letters already and I told him I mailed his the day I got his address and he should get them soon.  He also said he had written letters every night...I can't wait until I get one! :)
