N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies,

When your SRs finally get to call very soon, the area code will most likely show "847", but it could be any other area code so pick up all calls and if it is a solicitor, just tell them politely, "no, thank you."  Keep your cell phones near you and fully charged at all times, take it outside with you, upstairs, in the basement.  If your SR calls the home phone, have calls forwarded to your cell when you are out and about!!  If you are going to some place somewhat loud, put your phone on vibrate and then in your pocket or bra to be sure not to miss the call~~

Great call, Kerrie.  Just be prepared....when the actual training starts, it gets alot tougher.  So don't be alarmed if he gets a little more negative for a while.  They have that breakdown process that they have to go through...then they are built back up!  But they get through it!

On the mail, they usually cannot write for the first 2 weeks of bootcamp...until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  Mail is also held from them until then for the same reason.  Federal Law that requires anyone handling mail to be trained.  They usually get to write the first time and receive held mail on a Sunday.

my son is Ship 12 DIV 300. Anyone know when we can expect the first actual letter?

Comment by Kerrie on June 28, 2013 at 8:24pm

My phone rang today and on the other end was my son!!!  My heart completely dropped because my first thought was, "oh no! somethings wrong!"  But he said he needed additional addresses of non relatives for verification purposes.  He was alone and had time to chat a bit.  It was soooo wonderful to talk to him!!  He said he is doing just fine and for us to not worry about him.  He said it's not nearly as bad as he thought it would be.  And he said he's made a few really good friends that he knows will be friends for life.  That made me so happy because he's a little bit socially awkward.  Anyhow, I wanted to share that with yall.  We do love our babies.

Thank you Joshmom. He arrived on the 18th. I received the box last Friday. I have over 30 letters to send him. I had friends/family write him a note at his going away party, so I have a bunch to mail. Hopefully tomorrow, which is his 22nd birthday, so it would be nice to get the letter!

I'm so sorry, KellyW. The waiting is so hard. My son arrived at GL on 6/13 and I received the letter yesterday. I'm not sure when your SR arrived but praying you receive your letter soon.
