Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

KimsQuads - I got my son's address and PIR the following morning after he arrived at BC. I didn't send letters until I got Form letter just to b sure, but the recruiter was correct on all his info!

diannep: My husband actually called the recruiter yesterday...he said that they don't get the PIR date information:( Hubby forgot to ask about an address...I will be calling him back tomorrow to check on an address...was trying to wait for that form letter but I will feel better to at least put something in the mail...the thought of him not getting letters from home breaks my heart!

I too got a surprise call today for security clearance info. I answered and he said "hi momma". I stumbled for words for what seemed like forever before I said hi back! I have an app on my phone to record calls so I know it was really only like 2 seconds!)

My son is in 281 so if I understand correctly, they are in brother divisions. Training and sharing the same compartment.
I wanted to say so much and ask a bunch of questions but didn't want to risk getting him in trouble so I followed his lead. I got a lot of "I love you"s and "I miss you guys so much". Boy was I tempted to take my time "finding" the information but again was worried about getting him in trouble. lol

Welcome ChristinaT

We just got our letter today so I haven't made reservations yet, so I don't know if we'll make the meet and greet.  We will definitely be at the PIR.

Diverdee90....that "surprise" phone call was a "God send", because I was really a basket case:) He sounded very calm and it really eased my mind. So far...so good :)

I am feeling a little behind everything. My job has kept me extremely busy the last few weeks since my son left. I have tried to keep up with my quick scanning of this group. Now that I am not working so may hours I hope to get to know some of you. My son is ship 3 div 276. My husband and I are going to go to the meet and greet. I am a Marine mom too and the Marine MoM friends that I have made have been wonderful. Looking forward to making Navy mom friends.

That's great Diverdee90 :) The real fun began this afternoon with their first PT. (Wonder how that went!)  He said, up till now, they have been filling out paperwork, marching, learning to make their beds, and how to fold clothes correctly :) I asked if he needed anything (bandaids, moleskin) he said no they have been to the NEX to purchase approved items.

Thank you ladies for the info I appreciate it, I am feeling very overwhelmed and have had a lot of anxiety today I just wish I could waive a magic wand and jump right into the ceremony and avoid the trip there and back as my husband and SIL don't get along so its going to be very stressful and money is really tight for the trip and that doesn't help either but I guess I will just keep praying about the situation. You all are the best
