OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Elizabeth:  They can fly out all day on Saturday....and occasionally even Sunday, so if you can, I would try and book your return on Sunday, just in case.

I need travel advice! Going crazy! My SR normally makes the travel plans for our family :(

Should I plan flight tickets/hotels to stay checkout/depart Saturday or Sunday? My SR will be going to A school in Texas so we were hoping to spend time with him at the airport before he leaves. Would a 5:30 flight be pushing it? Or should we plan to depart Sunday? Thanks in advance!

Did you get a call in order to get the information about your daughter ?
I am so excited to find out the graduation date, but no letter yet, so hopefully that will change now!a,

Dianne, I talked with the recruiter & he told me the date for graduation. However, the system had not updated any information for his ship/division. So, I am at least thankful for this tidbit of news.

Rebecca: You will have to PM me your daughter's full name and address so I can bribe her.... Haha!

My daughter arrived on the 29th also. I hope to get a letter soon but we are in Alaska and mail takes forever to arrive. It's nice to hear people are starting to get letters so at least I know its on its way.

my recruit got there on June 29th but he didn't write the letter until the 12th. It'll come for those who haven't gotten one yet! :)

Just to let every know that they are not allowed to write a personal letter (only form letter) until they have been there about 2 weeks or so and the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  Once they receive your held mail after this (usually on a Sunday but not always),  they write their first letters to you, which are mailed out on Mondays.  Then they will receive mail M-F but can only mail out on Mondays.
