CORRECTION:  Norfolk is the world's largest naval base...they are moving 64 ships in preparation for Hurricane Irene.  Whoa....
Comment by diannep on August 25, 2011 at 11:34am

Thanks for sharing that, giasams.  I agree...I'm sure they are the best pros at preparing for this!

So funny about your kids loving their cancelled dentist appts!  There IS a positive to hurricanes approaching!  :-)

the weird thing about living in an area like this is that you don't really know how much to prepare when we get a hurricane watch/warning because things change so quickly. I've found that it's best to prepare for the worst and wish for the best. My kids are just happy that we had to cancel their dental appointments for Saturday! Seriously though, I know in my heart that everything will be okay and everyone is well prepared. We live 10 minutes from the Navy base in Norfolk and have been watching all the preparations being made. Trust me, they are on top of it, they are old pros at it.

Lala:  The Navy will educate your sailors on hurricane safety...don't worry!  They will be pros after this one!

Crystal:  Thanks for your prayers on that.  My sailor is one in the hurricane path and he is "essential personnel" which means he will be on the front lines for the hurricane.  In the Norfolk/NewportNews area.  He is not scared as we are hurricane veterans down here...but I'm sure all are a bit uneasy.  I feel confident that the Navy knows what they are doing!  They are moving all of the ships (and there are many at Norfolk...2nd largest naval base after San Diego) out of Norfolk....what a mission but what a neat thing to watch for those up there.  Pray that this hurricane is kicked out to sea and only fringe weather is received up there.  Thanks, ladies!

Yes, kmanmom>  They need to be with you at the gate.  They most likely will get in.  Extras usually do although there is a slight chance they will have to wait until the ones on the lists are seated. For sure, bring them!  They will love it!  Make sure they have ID!

diannep - Can you please answer a question for me?  We have some grandparents that would like to try to see PIR even though they are not part of the 4 on the list.  Do they need to or should they go through security with us at the gate?  Can you give me some guidance on this topic?

I'd like to add a countdown clock like the one pictured on this page to my Facebook, but I'm not sure how or where to get one.  Could anyone help me out???  Thank you in advance and God Bless all the upcoming graduates!!
