That is right...so excited to see them all in uniform..and just hold'em..
Hi Ladies,
So I get this phone call from my son brother on his father side to tell me that I got a letter from your son...hahaha, he wrote me and not you. Y'all need to no if I could have reached thru that phone and pulled his tongue out...LOL. Its all good to see that he wrote someone a short paragraph to say he is good and that I called my mom so I figure I would write you but its just like school to me in here, and that someone told him that the weeks to come would be easy and he will survive. So I'm happy and as Sparkeys said, 3 more weeks and 1 day until I see my Son. I am counting down the days.
I'm excited too!!!
This is ONE time where I am glad they kick you out of the PIR hall so fast (the lights start going off 10-15 minutes after PIR ends).
I had to tell my DH that the mare he was leasing lost her foal while he was in IRAQ. Couldn't avoid it...she lost it during foaling and I couldn't drag out the pregnancy. I hated hearing his voice over the phone...having to be the one to "give bad news" and not be able to be with him. I did email one of his friendsover there about it...such a blessing. BUT I told myself IF his dog died (he is 12) I WOULD NOT tell him until he got home. THAT I could get away with.
At least you discussed it with your son BEFORE he went...I'm going to make a judgement call here based on that...sounds like he doesn't want bad news until he is done with BC. Just my opinion though.
Like dianne said you are going to have to sit and weigh it. Do it when you can think about it from "the outside" of the situation...non -emotional. Or get someone else who knows your son REAL well that you trust.
Depending on when he has BS...just a caution...mine had BS a week before grad...this meant that he still had a week of BC essentially (they are never really "off", even during liberty etc. In fact the adherence to rules is just as and even more so watched. This is their first taste of "freedom" in 8 weeks. The temptation to slack is there. They are watched in public as GL is crawling with Naval personnel-the Mall, everywhere.), so he will still have duties and prepping for leaving. Even if it is just a day or two before PIR...and then there is prep for PIR and PIR itself. So yes, consider your son and see when he can best handle this.
Don't think about it as lying or with holding info...it for HIS good. I remember an Olympic skater who was told his sister died BEFORE he had to skate. He was a medal hopeful...he couldn't complete the skate.(Okay, I KNOW a person is different-and I KNOW it is a SIN to love that darn dog of mine so much! I have working Border Collies and HE IS MY PARTNER AND BUD!)
If he asks about it while you are at PIR or if you go to the NEX after...and you don't want to tell him until you are alone...just say..."fine" and move on. Chances are you will all be excited and can. Your pooch pal IS fine...he/she is wherever God puts our loyal companions! Then you can tell him as soon as you are alone.
If you choose to do it duirng the "I'm a Sailor" call...it's usually a long one so you can talk.
I wish you the best! (((HUGS)))
I agree, wellen--jodybrock. There is just no easy way to share news like that. I cry for weeks when I lose one of my precious dogs (luckily they have lived long lives, but "losing them" is still painful, at any age). Hopefully you all can celebrate a long while after PIR before you have to tell him.
Another suggestion: Do you think it would be better to break this news to him during the I'm a Sailor call....if he asks, I mean? You hate to temper his great excitement over being a sailor with news like this...but it would give him time to "digest" it before PIR. Only you know your son....and so I know you will know the right timing for this.
I'm so sorry....our pets are just the best....losing them is so painful.
Jody our SR's do know the reality of life too.. on the phone with mine I had to tell him that I can aford grad and his birthday is the day before, we both knew it in the back of our minds and have excepted it.He knows I love him with all my heart and would be there in 1 sec. if i could...
Cindy
