PeruvianMami- We received a letter yesterday.  Everything is going great he said.  They earned a flag because overall they had a 4.0 on their test.  Just received one phone call.  Hoping for another maybe in a week or so.  I think they are really busy this week.  How's your baby?

giasams- go ahead and make your reservations for the whole weekend. The hotels there are used to people having to make changes so they allow changed up until the same day you arrive. If you get there and stay one night and decide the next day to leave you just tell them, there is no fee for cancellations for most of the hotels there. Just ask their policy when you book your stay.

giasams:  I think you are pretty safe with her having liberty for the weekend if she has moved over to GL A School.  Like they say, NEVER SAY NEVER in the Navy because there is change, but usually the GL A School students who move over after PIR get daytime liberty.

does anyone know if they take the 'gift' credit cards at the NEX??? My SR's grandmother would like to get him a little something for grad....

I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and make the long drive up from Virginia. My SR says she will have the whole weekend off since her A school is across the street, but who knows, even that might change. But at least if I drive, I'll be there either way. I still haven't made hotel reservations though, cause I don't know for how long. Just finished reading a letter from her I got today. She's still having a really rough time, but I'm beginning to hear a little of her old self in there somewhere.

If any of them are staying on RTC for a week past PIR, they may not have liberty during that week.  That is the way it has been before...I know of one lady who booked out on Wed because her son had from Fri (after PIR)-Wed at RTC.  She only got the weekend with him.  He couldn't even call her M-W.  So it just depends.

I know that fireteamleaderwife was notified about her sailor's departure change 2 days before PIR (Also a Thurs PIR...had said he was leaving out Fri...but called to say he got the whole weekend). Hoping that you all get a phone call like that too!  Could have something to do with flight availability during the holiday weekend.

Comment by Proud AV Mom on August 4, 2011 at 3:42pm
Yeah, I know, I saw that too :(  we can keep our fingers crossed and hope that flights will be full due to the holiday leaving them no choice but to fly out the next week! lol.
