BritneyMarie: Please plan your travel to include the weekend in GL. Because...being a holiday weekend, there is more of a chance that some will have liberty that weekend. I know, he has his "plans," but they can change. Just ask fireteamleaderwife! Memorial Day weekend PIR for her SR....said the same thing that your SR did--flying out the next day. But thankfully, she had followed the advice on here and booked through the weekend, just in case. He called two days before PIR (also a Thurs PIR) to say that he had weekend liberty in GL. HOOYAH!
So we veterans stick by our advice that you should plan on the weekend in GL with your sailor....just in case! If they do have to head out to A School earlier, then you can sightsee in Chicago and Wisconsin!
Don't fret about him being in a "push" division....because like I said, they get it done. They are divisions that were kind of caught "between the cracks", in his case between the PIR 9/1 group and PIR 9/9 group (there is no PIR on 9/11). Rather than be in one of the first two divisions of the 9/9 group, he is part of the last two divisions (brother divisions) of the 9/1 group. That means....they are last in their training in this group, last to go through BattleStations.
@ Diannep-Veteran and Erin: oh ok! Luckily I got a call from him today and made sure to ask him about that and he said what you did erin; they were suppose to graduate 9/11 but because they are in a push division they will graduate on 9/01 instead. He confused the heck out of me in his letter lol.
He also said that he is one of the unfortunate one's who will only have Thursday to spend with family because Friday morning he will be shiping out to "A" school. Kind of a bummer but I hear that they are able to communicate more once they are out of boot camp
Absolutley! Write everything in pencil cuz it could always change. We made our flight reservations through Southwest airlines early to get the best rate, but you can make changes for only the difference in ticket price no extra charges like other airlines. The hotels in the area are also flexible and let you make last minute changes if ur Sailor flies out earlier then expected.
Ur SR could be told they will have the whole weekend after PIR in GL ,or that they won't, and it could change right up to PIR.
Hope this helps : )
rmorgan........how did you find out that you have most of that weekend with him?
I know that Friday is a Holiday...I was just wondering...need to make reservations and based on time I get with him will determine the plans. I also have a daughter
PIRing on 8/12 and was hoping she had time off from A school that weekend as well. I did see a post here a while back that if they are headed or in A school, it depends on wether or not they have "duty". I've asked my daughter if she could look into that, but that won't happen until she actually fases over to A school.
So, lots up in the air...I guess the MORAL of THE STORY is to be flexible!
That's one of the reasons I'm driving all the way from Florida for his so if I can't spend the time with either one of them....I'm Colorado bound for a one month get a way.....................................
