To add on to Sandy's suggestion about booking your trip through PIR weekend....the 7/15 group posted that some of their sailors' travel plans were "changing" ---so there you go!  It happens!  Book the maximum amount of time for the weekend just in case your sailor has liberty too...if not....enjoy sightseeing after he/she leaves!  But remember, even if they tell you that they are flying out on Fri/Sat, flight plans can change. Being a holiday weekend....there is a good chance that some will have the weekend with their sailors!

Sandy's sailor son, I agree.  Once my son figured out that I was able to find out really accurate information, he would actually ask me to find out things for him.  :)   When he went to A school, he would tell me about some of his friends whose moms' knew me from our group, so they were obviously talking about Navy4moms, or how else would they have found out who we knew?   Somehow it didn't seem so weird to him that I was on here then.  lol

jodybrock, you will be probably be glued to this site for the next year, trust me, I know ;)

My son was a depper, and he was really surprised with the stuff I would be able to tell him from what I learned here, that he had no idea about! He would tell people, "ask my Mom, she seems to know more about it than I do somehow." He just STARTED bootcamp, and this site has been invaluable already! Yay to N4M's! Kudos to all of you who help out us newbies!

Betsy, I think NFMs is given a bad rap. I have found out so much information from other veteran Sailor families on NFMs and passed it on to my son. I also think this site is good because if a new Navy family has a question about (A)school and GL I can ask my Sailor Son. Then pass on the that information to them.

Thanks, Sandy's sailor son.  :)  I forgot to add that when I called POA, I told them that they may want to have a talk with their RDC's, because THEY were the one's who were telling the recruits that they could come home at Christmas.   lol

I actually had another story about the personnel of RTC mentioning the Navy4Moms.  I had sent my son's contact lenses to him while he was at BC (in the last few weeks) and he had to open the package in front of his RDC.  When the RDC saw that it was contact lenses, he asked my son if he had told me that he could have them for PIR.  My son said "No, sir".  The RDC then said to my son. "Oh.......Navy4Moms........".  The funniest part of that story is that I didn't even hear it on this sight, but I had actually read on the RTC Facebook page that they were able to wear them for graduation.   So, we were even getting blamed for passing on information that we hadn't even done.  LOL

Proud AV Mom, I don't know the answer to your question but I will say this: book your trip to PIR as if your Sailor was not a Grad & Go. You might not know the true details of your Sailors schedule until PIR. It is better to give yourself plenty of time. Grad & Gos usually fly out of Chicago at 2 or 4 in the morning. You might want to meet your son at the Airport to spend time with your Sailor  before his/her departure. You will be able to do this unless your Sailor has a Chartered flight. You will find out at PIR.

Sandy's sailor son, you are so right. There are no others like Navy Moms. Hooyah!

diannep, what you said about RTC is so true. They think we a mere civilians who know nothing of the Navy and how it works. RTC underestimate our ability to find out about Navy information ourselves.
We are Moms. We have ways.
