OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Ship 11 Div 280 - Today was a great day just received a phone call today from our son. He sounded really good. The first 2 days were rough but he is good. He was very happy to receive letters from us and felt bad for the ones that did not get letters yet. So calls are on the way keep your phones close.

Momma T,

Such awesome advice!!  Yea, hard for us not to try to take over and tell our children what to do, what to look out for, etc...etc...We are so used to protecting them.

We should also not look "needy" to them.  Us moms want to know everything, but they are becoming familiar with the "need to know" way of things.  They are growing up in this process and the Navy treats them as independent adults.  We learn to step back and let our children come to us.  They surely know we love them...but we have to be careful of "smothering" them whether we know it or not... You have given sage advice!!

There are more weeks of Boot Camp and more opportunities to hear from your SRs!!

Hi Patricia. Hang in there and be encouraged by knowing you are loved. I'd offer that possibly speak with you, his mom will really pull on his heart strings....our recruits share an experience many of us will only witness. I've spoken with my son but I'm careful with my question and mindful not to impose my anxiety on to him. Your concern is valid for sure, I'm learning to be patient and allow him share as he feels he's able to. My son hasn't written, writting is more personal for him and I'm sure he's not ready to fully express himself until he feels he's in a good place within hhhimself. Finding himself as a man is something I've learned is something he may not always want to share in the moment. I've learned to listen without responding...no matter how hard my tongue is hurting from biting it. Lol. I've learned that by asking him, "What is it that you need me, or don't need from mom right now." It keeps me from wanting to offer unsolicited advice when he simply needds me to listen. Being a mom is not for the faint at heart...our children these days are interesting human beings to parent without a handbook. :-) big warm hugs tou you!

feeling extreamly left out by my son this week.  he called his (GF) first yesterday and then his dad and I guess he ran out of time, because I got NO call.  I am heartbroken! It is hard for me to accept that I am not first on his list.  I know that he is only allowed certain amount of time, but as a mom it still just really hurts not to get a call  Hoping that I at least get another letter this week.  I have only gotten one.  Just need to hear his voice.

Hi Lynnie78. Glad he's doing so well. It's valuable to hear everyones experience so that we can get a glimpse of the bigger picture. Pray he continues to do well and our recruits support one another. This is truly a memorable life experience for everyone. Hugs to all NavyMoms.
