I.don't mean to be harsh however when I talked to my son yesterday He told new that He likes it up there and yes He misses home but doesn't understand why or what is causing this to happen. I hope that No one is assuming that my son is weak or doesn't want to be there because that is nit the case. This causes a lot of stress for not only them but us as well. I pray everyday all day that this is not serious and He can stay. I just want everyone to know.

As far as the "delay" in getting them home...paperwork and getting everything in order. There are discharge papers and travel arrangements...etc. It has to "cross desks" and "I's and t's" have to be dotted and crossed.

Many times recruits with shin splints and even stress fractures are retained and sent to Recovery during BC. Once healed and declared FFD (Fit for Duty), they are cycled back into another training group.

Now, I don't know what the criteria is for some going home for certain injuries while some are retained...my point is that shin splints and leg issues have variables...but panic attacks , anxiety do not...they are disqualifiers.

Asthma is another. No branch (possible Army though...only a "rumor) will take you with asthma. Some will get a waiver for it for various reasons and still try...maybe it was when they were younger or diagnosed and never needed tx etc. But asthma can "show up" for many reasons not just allergies and such...so with the stresses of BC...unfortunately, sometimes that's what happens. Sometimes it is not an issue...again you can't know until you start going through BC.

It is extremely hard when the "heart" wants to achieve something...and our bodies cannot.

Angie, I was just curious because I saw the link to seperations yesterday for the one mom and I was reading the comments and it was really sad.  I wondered what happened to these SR's.  I realize it is important to find out early, of course. My son did PT every saturday and did alot of running but I heard stories of some SR's that got no PT with their recruiters.  I also realize that this is something that they should have known to do before they left on their own.  It was just something I wondered because I didn't realize how many went home from reading that page and in hindsight with as many that go to BC, the ones that get sent home is probably very little.  Thanks for giving me the info.  :)

jenmac - I am so sorry about your son being seprated. You did everything you could. I am confident that with all the prep you did that your son will be able to find another dream and achieve it. Prayers for you and thank him for wanting to serve his country.

Jennifer, yes, they can use stamps.  They can buy them there too.

Comment by Jennifer on August 3, 2012 at 9:08am

Thanks!  I got a tip to also send him stamps (?)

Jennifer they can buy them there but they may not always have a chance to get one when calls can be a surprise. They may even be issued one but we have not confirmed that yet. It is always a good idea to send them one with plenty of minutes. Most cards use 30 min of time off the card just for using a payphone. So if they call and no one answers it still uses up 30 min. If they call back and you answer and talk for 10 minutes they have now used up 80 min on the card. So it adds up quickly especially if there are other people they will call.

Comment by Jennifer on August 3, 2012 at 8:42am

I've seen a few posts about calling cards.  Should I send my SR one?  I was told that they can buy them there (?)

sharbear:  Yes, it is very sad.  Lots of emotions involved, especially anger when there seems to be unfairness (i.e., condition disclosed before heading to bc but then discharged because of it once at bootcamp).
