If there is any change in your recruits status that disrupts their training schedule they will be granted a call home...so "no news is good news" in those situations.

I hope they do too sharbear!

I have the same thing going on with my middle son. He has several friends all going for different branches... and he wants Army Cavalry Scout (in college right now racking up some credits as we homeschooled...he could probably just go...but having the credits makes it a bit 'easier'). One is Navy (and yes...I am TRYING to get him to listen too me! Hovering mother...even when they aren't mine! LOL), one AF, one CG reserve. We have another now that I think of it that got into the Devil Pups for marines...so I guess I know where he's going eventually!

My husband has handed out more of his old boots this year than I can ever remember...they come to him for them! Good thing he saved all of them Ha, ha!

Geez, he has also "initiated' our middle son and one of his friends into cigars! It is wierd to see my "baby boy" smoking a stogie!

Thanks FTLW and from what I understand from my recruiters, they don't let them fail.  They really work with our kids and make sure they pass. I know I've seen documentaries where they completely encourage them as they struggle.  It was good to see and I know not every situation is like that but I hope more are than not.  Well if the number is that low then giving out the PIR date wouldn't be an issue.  It just seems tough and then I met another mom on here whose child had no PT before leaving for bootcamp.  My son went every saturday and I think that's so important but I guess every recruiting office has their own way of doing things.

Lala, thanks for the info. I was just having the discussion with a coworker about how important those letters are.  My son has 5 very close male friends. 2 are leaving for the Army and 2 are leaving for the marines and 1 Navy.  It's been hard since I feel like I'm losing more sons every month. Anyway, none of them have written to Spencer and I tried to explain to one of them yesterday that he is going to be in boot camp soon and he is quickly going to understand how important these letters are.  I told him, don't you think it would put a smile on his face to hear from you?  He said he's a 90's kid and doesn't write (manual) letters.  I told him to facebook me the message and I will not look, print and send.  I know a good majority of his female friends have written him but these guys are so close, saying goodbye to Spencer, they all came and tears were there.  I know this doesn't mean they don't care about him but they should at least write one letter and it shouldn't be like pulling teeth.  They share the funny memories to make him laugh. They are great kids.  I'm thinking of having a pow wow and just having them all sit down and talk about things that they did and I will type as they talk....lol.  They are like my boys, all of them.  Ok, can't get emotional here.  I hope one day, they can meet up again.

I have never seen (or looked for :o) ) statistics for those not finishing their third and final test. Last I heard (a few months ago from a mom) was they get twelve tries...so that is not a "for sure".

I do agree with LaLa's post though. Our PIR groups ...the way I guestimate the amount of members? Take the number of Divisions and put a zero at the end. So, if we had say 11 Divisions...about 110 members...give or take. Now, take that times the actual number of recruits starting out at about 900+...that's 800 recruits not "accounted for " by members on here.

Others are only on FB and do not even know about this site...and sadly like LaLa said some do not receive support. Have heard several stories were the recruit has said..."don't bother writing" and the family ignored it and did it anyways...they usually ask for more! It is sooo important for military members...beyond basic training as well! Deployed members getting care packages...don't think I've seen a story yet where they said they didn't need it! A little bit of home can go a long way.

rhonda1880, the one with the shuttle in Waukegan would be the closer one. None of them have a shuttle from or to the airports and getting a taxi can cost a lot of money. Much more than a rental car. You can contact Sarge to pick you all up from the airport but it is still I think about $75.00. Some others will be able to tell you a more definite price.

Rhonda - Did you look into flying into Milwaukee (MKE).  It is much less expensive for me and I prefer not to drive through Chicago as well.  Just a thought!
