Hello I just found this part of the page. I'm stressing. Please, I need someone's knowledge about the Holiday Inn properties. I don't have time to call all of them and see who's closer to what and who has the shuttle. Holiday Inn Libertyville does not have a shuttle, nor an outside shuttle according to the front desk. Holiday Inn Express Wauk/Gurn? has shuttles for $3 one way but it is much more costly to come to by taxi/shuttle from the airport. My parents and myself are coming and I DO NOT want my Dad to drive around in Chicago. Anyone transportation veterans out there willling to help? Thanks.
sharbear, I am not sure what the actual numbers are for those that quit, fail, get hurt etc. But I do believe that family support has a lot to do with how well they do at boot camp. It seems to me that the families who come to pages like this are the ones who seem to go out of their way to support their recruit. And, because of that I think we on this site see a fewer number of those who do not make it. If I had to guess what the statistics are for just those who have families on this site I would guess that the average of having one get set back or ASMOED for one reason or another is probably one per PIR group. We on this page really don't have that many. Occasionally we will have a group that has a couple of them set back in training. Maybe one was injured and one couldn't pass the test. But in some PIR groups we don't see any. I am sure there are more than that as far as Divisions on a whole and I would have to guess 4 or 5 maybe. But like I said the majority of them don't have as much family support and some of them have none. Some of them hate it and know right away they made the wrong decision and they find a way to quit. But after being here for more than two years my best guess would be about one per PIR group.
I have a question. I am reading all the information and I don't even think I read it all but I find it odd that we get (well not me because my son is holding his form letter hostage for some reason.....lol) the form letters so soon after they get there and there is so much that seems can go wrong. I know that we have to have a certain amount of time to make travel arrangements but at the same time, I'm seeing people have to change those because of certain situations. To the really knowledgeable people on this site, how many do you see not finish that 3rd and final test? I was just reading about it and it scared me to think how difficult it was and how many don't pass it. I don't have the statistics but would love to see them. I'm not trying to be pessimistic(sp?) but just something that I thought of while reading all that. It's also got to be very disappointing for those SR's to not get a graduation at all if they don't pass or am I reading all that completely wrong? I'm still nervous to know if my son passed the swimming, I would hear from someone in GL if he didn't?
Thanks so much nolanavymom, I am very proud of her.
newnavywife, they are "given" a re-loadable gift card for the NEX when they arrive. It is actually taken out of their pay a little later on. So, I am sure he is using that to purchase the things he needs there like shampoo, soap, shaving supplies and stamps and envelopes. No worries, I am sure you will hear from him soon :-) Probably even this week. Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days for letters depending on where you live. :)
It seems I missed a lot last night, you guys always seem to post a lot when I am working lol.
I know this site can be a bit hard to get used to. But once you spend a little time here it is not bad at all. And for all those who do use Facebook, including myself, we all know that it is not always so easy. It seems that just when you think you haveFacebook all figured out they re-do the format and change it all again and it is like starting over. We all complain and freak out and beg them to put it back the way it was but we stay there and learn it all over again. At least with this site they don't make such drastic changes. Just spend some time here and ask questions. We will help you learn to navigate this site. It really is easy :)
Thanks so much everyone for posting your observations. Angie, I had a feeling that was the reason but since I am not on any of "those" groups I couldn't be sure. So thanks for confirming that. As you know I don't advertise on this site, I only tell people how to find me or my website once they have asked. That is what I was told I could do. But that is not the reason I am on this site nor the reason I am on facebook although I do get asked a lot more questions on facebook. When you have been making something for families for two years word gets around and people will find you one way or another.
You can ask anyone who knows me. I am here and I am on facebook to help other people the same way that others on this site helped me. I go above and beyond what most people would do to help a stranger and I truly believe there are several others on this site and facebook who do that as well. We like helping people, it is in our nature and that is what we do. I have driven 3 hours to help a fellow Navy Mom who needed me. I have held get together's in towns I visit to bring Navy Moms in those area's together. I have done that in FL, VA Beach/Norfolk area and in Wilmington NC area. I provided snacks and drinks and we all just talked for hours about our Sailors and recruits. I really enjoy meeting other Navy Moms/Wives, Grandmas etc. I recently had another Navy mom offer to drive 3 hours to help my Sailor who is very sick right now. Really? Who does that? I can tell you who does that. A Navy Mom does that!!! I don't know many people in this world who would drive 3 hours to take some soup to someone they had never met and it just be purely out of the goodness of their heart. I truly feel very much appreciated on this site and on facebook because I am told how appreciated I am. I think it is important to let others know how much we appreciate them. We all have a need to feel loved and appreciated and I am sure that is why I continue to spend several hours a day reading posts and comments and answering questions to help those who need it. We are one great big Navy family and I am blessed to have all of you as my friends.
So, please spread the word about this site, tell others how much you appreciate what they do and as Ellen Degeneres says "Be kind to one another" <3 We are family now :-)
Lala - I so enjoyed the picture of your daughter. It brought tears to my eyes. She is a beautiful young woman. I know how proud you must be!
