I like "huzzah"...maybe I have been watching to much Pirates of the C lately.

Exactly Angie...and you have confirmed it now.

That's one of the reasons why we "veteran's" stay on these PIR groups...to try and help you learn how to be able to share with out fear...but with OPSEC. Plus, I have Spidey-sense LOL!

We don't want you to "not post"....that wouldn't be prudent on a Forum would it! But we want to be able to help you along...so you feel supported and comfortable. You need that so you in turn can support your recruit/future Sailor.

Enough of my mouth now!

Okay...reading back even further I see a post about having to join a PIR group on here in order to get on a FB group.I think I know what that was about.

Someone had created private "need to be approved" PIR groups on here for this one and the two following...with FB links. They have since left the site. Ning (the techy company for N4M's) built in a feature that if a member left ...their group would remain...that way let's say it was a  very active group...but the member left...the others could carry on. Used to be it would disappear with the creator. (If you do ever leave...and we hope you don't! Everything you have posted leaves with you as far as I know. Groups remain and private messages remain)

Anyways...the groups are still here and then so the links to FB must be. I have contacted the site admin about them and will further tell her that the member has left and ask for the PIR groups to be deleted.

Huzzah ellen0502! It really isn't....you just have to explore...and your explanation is great! Also, about OPSEC.

Well, I missed the post from Proudmomof 2navysailors about "...sort of reeling you in and trying to sell you something" and Angie's about the Ribbons...I really hope that is not happening as that would be a very roundabout way to promote a business on this site...

The Weather Widget is interactive.

If you hold your cursor over the top bar:

To the far left is the LIVE tab. This shows the current weather. If you go to another day or time and want to return to the current weather just click LIVE.

The tab next to it is the time you are at.

Next to that is the date. Click the arrows to advance or retreat OR click on it and you will get a Calendar and can click on any date.

The rest of the top bar is the current day. The little green marker is what the current time is. Slide your cursor across to go to any time of the day

The weather will change in the Picture accordingly. The Big Square box on the right with the written details will change also.

Just under the top bar to the left are the next four days of the week...click on those to look at them...click on the arrow to extend...it will add two more days.

All the little balloons, birds, planes, falling stars, fireworks etc. are added features I believe.

It does reflect true weather conditions like wind speed, rain, lightning, snow and clouds though.

This site is very easy to navigate!

Once you are logged in, at the top of the page are tabs, main, my page, forums, groups etc.. Clicking on those will take you to that "space" on this site, after clicking that tab you will see just below the tabs and to the left, several sub "categories".

For instance, if you click on the "group tab" it pulls up the main screen for all groups on the site. If you look right below the tabs to the left, you will see two clickable links one for "all groups" and one for "my groups". Clicking on the "my groups" link brings up a screen that directly connects you to all the groups you have joined. From there you can click on any of your groups for access.

I would hope that "J**n" and friends, who are starting the groups on FB, learned the OSPEC guidelines while visiting this site and are asking that everyone follow them on their FB groups as well (last names that's another story). Closed or private group, there is really no way to tell if everyone who is there should be there.

Just be careful where and what you post ladies.

Thank you FTLW....I was just reading some of the comments on here and really felt like myself and others were being put down for having a facebook group.  As I told you before this is a great site and full of information...just not a format I am comfortable wtih and I hear that alot.  Nothing against anyone on this site....just the format.

Here's your Meet and Greets link:

http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir09072012/page/meet-nd-greets-fo...

...will make a fun one soon up above in the text box area up under the Weather Widget.. .looking of a possible new one that doesn't take up space and is eye catching.

Also, for the RTC Website:

I am not going to debate one sites merits over another...but I will say that I was a complete newbie to forums when I joined this one a year ago...and look at me now! LOL I don't FB as a family personal preferance....plus have no time to be on two forums!

It took a little doing but I learned to Navigate...that's because it was fun to me! I loved figuring it out...but I had some time on my hands with a Hubby deployed to Iraq. I have to limit my time on here now  BUT perimenopause (gee was that to personal ? :-D) increases it some on those sleepless nights (hence LaLa's comment about me being a little fairy and/or elf)! Most just don't have the time...understandably so.

We have retired and active Navy on here as well as moms/GF/wives etc. We veteran PIR moms welcome all questions and all questions about what we post. We also ask the previous PIR moms to post anything we may have gotten wrong or updates as things change in the Navy rapidly sometimes.

The site was meant for beyond Boot Camp as well. There are state/ region groups so that you can really connect face to face for support...Care Package groups for the deployed and more. I am on all the active PIR groups, Boot Camp Moms and the DEP groups based on my personal commitment...but I am also on the Reserve Moms and a few others...for fun and my own support...though helping out here supports me always! Thank you to all of you!

Our PIR groups are public as many, many join and do not post but read and feel a part of it still...to close them on here doesn't work...too uninviting and unwlecoming (not a slam to closed FB groups...just doesn't "work" on here...it has been done and the group had to be closed and another started as members were waiting to be approved to join.)...so we try to teach you about what to say and what not to say...which is good training as far as OPSEC goes...how do you "share" without sharing TMI? It can be done,...and it can be comforting to at least "know" that there are others in the same boat.

Believe me....I have been a Law Enforcement wife and AF Reserve wife for 29 years...had to "be trained" by hubby on what to say and not say! LOL  I share appropriate info...but just not the specifics.

I think it is time for me to do a write up on Navigating the site...and some tips on how to's. BQB has a great Survival Guide for Navy for Moms Newbies (clickable link) but I think I can add to it with some Powerpoints and step-by-step stuff. Will be a work in progress though.

Just want to clear something up.  The facebook page was created by veteran mom's who had a hard time navigating this forum when our kids were in boot camp.  We were very much in need of  a facebook group and still have people who could help us out with their experience.  So, after our kids graduated we decided to pay it forward and create the pages for the upcoming PIR's and offer our experience just as the veteran moms do on this site.  We want it to be a place of comfort to cope with this new life you have entered into.  We offer you what we have experienced and have learned along the way and also offer comfort and support.

There is no ulterior motive and we tell you up front who we are and why we created the page.  The group is a closed group to offer some privacy.  You have to be a member of the page to see the comments on the page.  I hope this eases any concerns you have about joining a closed facebook group.

If you have any questions you can go to the members page and ask any of us.
