~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

elilam:  Found this on a forum too.  Posted a few years back, but maybe worth checking into:

"As already mentioned, Illinois Beach is the closest campground to USNTCGL.

It is also the only campground in the area open all year. The park staff will plow out your campsite for you if/when it snows.

Hookups - electric only. A few of the campsites have 50 Amp.

Dump station is free and there are water hydrants throughout the campground where you can fill your fresh water tanks.

I hosted there for > 4 years so I know the area."

elilam:  Well, hope that the campground they found works out.  Hope maybe there is one on the Lake up there....

Ship 11/Div 283...got a 36 min call Sat.  I could not believe it.  Although my son had no voice...it was nice to hear the squeeks on the other end. He indicated he had 3 wisdom teeth pulled OUCH!!

elilam46:  You may just want to google RV campgrounds near Great Lakes IL and look at the different options and reviews.

Ditto what ellen posted below, Alecat!  They have to manage all of their own luggage so extra luggage is not a good thing!  You can ship other items to him after he arrives at A School if needed.

Alecat, Ask your husband a couple weeks before PIR what he would like you to bring. He shouldn't need many civilian clothes, and won't be able to wear them for several weeks after he arrives at A School.

He shouldn't need/want another case to carry as he will have his seabag, backpack and a garment bag already. Anything you take to him should fit in what he is already carrying.

diannep question? my husband wrote to me and in the letter he said he wants me to bring his suit case with clothes , shower gel etc to take to the airport so he can take it with him to A school in Texas , bit I thought they couldn't bring anything with them?
Comment by diannep on August 4, 2014 at 9:19pm

Luv2laff:  Yes, most of the sailors flying out to A School will fly out early on Sat, bussed sometime Fri night.  So you will have Fri after PIR with your sailor until about 8 or 9 pm.  You can meet your sailor at the airport the next day.  Bring ID and get an airlines gate pass to wait at gate until departure.

Those with sailors staying in GL for A School will have to wait for them to move over there shortly after PIR is over (takes a few hours) and then they have Liberty until about 10 that night.  They will have Daytime Liberty through the weekend.
