Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello Everyone... My SR is scheduled for PIR 9-13-13. I'm concerned because I have not heard from my SR. I've only received one phone call and one letter. Don't know when my SR is scheduled for BS.  Can someone could provide information?  Ship 09 Div 341

Good Morning, All, and Happy Labor Day weekend!

Great advice, adm402 (Ash).  RTC may put out a warning for that, and advise that the sailors/families stay out of that area.  Be checking the RTC page, and if they DO issue a warning, I'm sure they will announce something at PIR also.  Since Syria would be a "Navy" war, persay, with destroyers already in place, I would be cautious since our sailors could be specifically targeted.

Just as an FYI, I was just on the phone with my brother who lives in Chicago and he informed me that starting this weekend there will be anti-war protests occurring in the city of Chicago. I do not know how long these protests will last. I will try to keep you informed on this forum and also the facebook page for our TG. I want our sailors to have a safe and enjoyable liberty and would hate for it to be spoiled or have one get hurt by protestors. Please do your best to keep up to date on the situation if I do not get a chance to get back on here. I am leaving Tuesday (yep two weeks early, but gotta take the new baby to meet the grandmas and grampas and uncles and aunts. /sigh) I may not have access to a computer before PIR.

Be safe and keep watch on the situationl

Just a Reminder...

For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, please check out www.pirgifts.com .  They have Challenge Coins, which are a military tradition.  Craig, who is one of thei administrators on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC.  The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion section.  When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins.  This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days!  Another really sharp coin is the Core Values one in the section where 70 other coins are available--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge.  These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and family.  My Sailor daughter thought hers was "cool" when I gave it to her after PIR!

...BattleStations for this PIR group will start the week before PIR week....and continue through PIR week.  There are never any on Fri/Sat nights.
