N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, please check out www.pirgifts.com .  They have Challenge Coins, which are a military tradition.  Craig, who is one of thei administrators on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC.  The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion section.  When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins.  This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days!  Another really sharp coin is the Core Values one in the section where 70 other coins are available--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge.  These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and family.  My Sailor daughter thought hers was "cool" when I gave it to her after PIR!

Lindsaysproudmom,

You're welcome!  Sounds like you SR daughter is doing great and has found her path in life with the Navy!!  The similation of the ship coming in is called Marlinspike.  She saw herself in those dress whites when she saw a division ready to PIR (kinda like a premonition of things to come!)  So glad her division is coming together and hope some of her new friends will be in A school and a future duty station with her~~

Anyone else get letters today?

Comment by Lindsaysproudmom(ship11Div345) on August 22, 2013 at 4:04pm

Thanks CatMom509! I did not send anything since she didn't ask so maybe she did buy some things.

I got a letter today!! So happy to hear from her! She said they started Hell Week last Friday so they should be finished today! She said they got up at 0330 and ran their second PFA. , she passed and their division got a flag for doing well. She said that she loves working together as a team and meeting people from all over! They also did the ship simulation of coming in and going out and really liked that. They ran into a division in their whites getting ready to PIR and it gave her chills! I think my girl was meant to do this! She is just so excited about everything going on. She said it can be stressful (the inspections and tests) though. She has made good friends with several of the girls so that's good. She says they do laugh together and feel like they are doing this together! So proud of all of them!!

Good morning everyone :)

Lindsaysproudmom:  Like CatMom said, we don't ever recommend sending anything to your SR that they didn't request.  So maybe she just decided to buy what she needed at the NEX.

beverleys:  I hope you found your division group up top to get to know those in your division!  The discussion is in the forum.  Be sure to stay on this main page too for lots of info!

Good Morning All !

Lindsaysproudmom,

Usually your daughter should have written you requesting her make-up and asking for specific stuff.  You can't know to send her it if she hasn't requested it from you by now.  She also has the opportunity to buy new make-up at the NEX.  They take their photos about the 5th week of training, so don't worry about it if she hasn't ask you~~

jettsmom,

I just included a few of the short ones in my regular letter I was sending out or if you have the long envelopes, fold them in thirds to put in with one of your letters.  I would sometimes add a stamp to each envelope if I had enough to tide me over the next few days or would even address them to myself.  We also had other members of our family that she was writing separate letters to, so sometimes I leave them blank.  I would weigh to make sure it didn't go over 1 oz (we had a postage scale).  About 5 pages of the Walmart copy paper in a long envelope is 1 oz.  So you could send a 2 page letter and write front and back and send 2 short envelopes or a 3 page letter and a long envelope. Have other members of your family send envelopes too.  I always write a letter and either sent blank paper or envelopes if my Sailor daughter requested it.  She let me know if she had enough.
