OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Follow this link for OPSEC Guidelines:

N4M's Community Guidelines

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

For those looking for something to do, either with your sailor or after your sailor leaves, here is a link for things to do in Chicago.  30 minutes train rates (military gets discount), station right next to RTC:

It was great! They really do a good job, security was very tight. I do wish they had a Family Day prior to graduation day like the Marines.

Yep, Ladies,

Stay plugged into Navy for Moms!!  We have lots of groups for A schools, C schools, rating (job), states, regional, ships, bases, twin & multiples, and the Christian Chat group that I am a part of!!  Your Sailor's journey is just beginning!!

Comment by ellen0502 on September 11, 2013 at 9:57pm

Don't leave the group!!! The name of the group will be changed to Alumni of.... Stay here and let each other know how and what your sailors are doing. Some of you may find that although your sailors don't have A School together they may end uo in the fleet together. :)
