Has anyone received an actual letter from their sailor yet?? I'm very anxious to hear from him. I'm also worried. He expressed sadness on his form letter home with his PIR information and I've been a wreck since. I've read that the first couple weeks are hardest for them. Is that true?? Is there a limit to the amount of letters I can send him? I heard that they get singled out if they're getting too much mail and I don't want to make anything harder for him. Thanks!!!

I have not.  but I must say  I did not hear about too much mail getting singled out.   How did he express sadness in the form letter?

Maltobella, I've been wondering the same thing! I saw a post somewhere yesterday that a mom had received a letter, but never got confirmation if it was a "new" letter or the form letter. Based on the PIR group that is right in front of us, we should start receiving letters this week, but - as with everything - it's not written in stone! We are in Arizona so if they were able to write this past Sunday I'm not expecting anything until Wednesday or Thursday. (Of course that just means that I'm only checking the mailbox 3 times a day instead of 12! lol) So...LADIES, when you get a letter, post on here so we can all share in your excitement!

I'm in Wheaton, IL... about an hour south of GL. I'm really hoping I might get something today. He just wrote on the letter that he really misses us (little brother, girlfriend and myself) and he's depressed and wants to come home and what do I think. He said he didn't want to disappoint anyone. I truly believe it's just because he's never been away from home. I talked to his recruiter and a friend of mine that's a former Marine and they said to just encourage him and be supportive.

It's hard when they express homesickness. I'm sure you wanna just yell, "HECK YES! COME HOME!" but I agree with the counsel that you've already received. Encourage and Support! They have to go thru an adjustment period just like we do. They just don't have Navy For Mom's at their beck and call! So think about how you support other mom's on here when they're feeling down and how they support you and just pour that into your son in your letters and eventually phone calls! I also have heard about the "extra" PT for getting too many letters. But, I've also heard from sailors who said, they didn't mind because they'd rather have more letters from home and a lot more PT then the reverse. I'm sending at least one letter from us and one from a friend each day. Today I sent out 4! If you would like to send me a personal message with your SR's address I would be happy to send him an extra boost of encouragement!

Good! I was worried that one a day was too much! As soon as I got the address I've been sending them and my mom has and his girlfriend. I feel better now. That's so sweet of you to offer. I will send you the address. Yeah, I know this is best for him and he knows it and has wanted it for a long time. I told him by the time you read this, you'll be 1/4 finished!

my son will get more then one a day..because that is what i'm sending....hang tight...he probably forgot for what he was sad for already...

Hi, I am in Phoenix,AZ and I got the form letter yesterday. My SR did not write anything but fill in the blank space :-( . I am sending him a letter everyday as well (can't help lovin' him that way). The letters

help me too!

Exactly! They're fun to write! Where in Phoenix are you? Have you joined the Arizona Moms group?

Hi everyone!!!  First I want to say I'm sorry for  some confusion I may have caused I did not get a letter but my son did write a few things in the margin of the form letter.  Someone asked as soon as I posted if it was a actually letter and I was unable to reply as I have  so much trouble with this site, doesn't always let me reply, do not receive emails, slow loading etc

My son Ship 3 Div 297...I rec'd his form letter Sat. in the mail. I'm sure they had time this past Sunday to write, which will probably mean a letter this week. Of course, this only means if my son decided to write because he did not write anything on his form letter...trying to be strong I'm sure...but it is his personality so I'm not taking it to heart. But I am looking forward to receiving something to read. I've never heard that if they receive too much mail that they will be singled out. All I've ever heard and read is sending letters is strongly encouraged. Today, I mailed out my son 3 pages of goofy jokes and nonsense trivia. I have sent him a hand-written letter just giving info regarding our pets, what I cooked for dinner, and work. I just want him to visualize everything at home is the same as it was when he left and to not feel he is missing out on anything special. I told him we missed him but, more so, how so very proud we are of him. I know you are anxious to hear from him, and I'm even more sure he was anxious to write home.

My son left 7/18 and no "personal letter" yet. I worried about sending him too many letters also but with all the posts I have read, I am not the only one sending one a day.

Just got my letter! We are in CA, so it takes 3 days...he is fine, full of humor as always.
