OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks diannep. No paycheck. It direct deposit in his hometown bank we have set up for him. I just wired money to his Navy Checking account. And sent him a letter. I hope he gets it worked out. It has worried me.

tbird:  Hmmm.....on the paycheck situation.  I have a feeling that they corrected the mixup after the first check and the next one will be direct deposited into his account.  I do not believe they will send checks normally.  As far as needing money while there, he has his supply card which was issued to him when he went in so he can use that for supplies at the NEX.  They take out that money (for the full card amount...maybe $150?) from his pay so it is paid for.  So, no worries about not much money.  As far as the piks....you can always pay for those AFTER PIR in the Photo Lab.  He can order them and wait for you to pay them....

Well Amanda I know that one of those 18 year old is mine he is talking about. He is so pumped up in his letters. I am glad that the have each other to bounce the energy around.

tbird96, thank you for the feedback! I can honestly tell you that my SR is fond of the SR's around him.:) In one letter he wrote: I am surrounded by 18 year olds talking excitedly around me before we have to go to bed while I try to hurry and write a letter to you all. I am glad they are finding joy in our experience.

We are getting closer to welcoming them through the finish line and it sounds like they are running the good race! :)

Good morning...one more day closer...YAY!!!
Just wondering if anyone received a call from Ship 13 Siv 314 yesterday? Have a nice day...

Thank you for the clarification on the meet and greet. I wasn't too worried and was still going no matter what. To be in a room with all of you will be a blessing and would like to see you to thank you for the support. My son said that hell week is this coming week. He told his dad... I'll talk to you in about a week and a half. Don't know how concrete that is. Amanda confirmed on phone that your SR is one one the ones he looks up to so thank you to you, Your SR and your family. It gives me peace to know he has someone there he looks up to. I do have anther question about pay. He messed up his paycheck and his monies is coming home. He had money when he went in . Do I need to wire some money to his navy account? I know pictures are this week right? He had 140 we he went in. Can he fix his paycheck soon or has to wait until after PIR? Worried about that.
