Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

It's is 'intensive training'. In the Marine Corps they call it 'getting bent'. It means they are given extra physical training (bunches of push ups, sit ups, mountain climbers, etc.) for errors.

Does anyone know what "IT'S" refers to? My daughter wrote to me and said that they have gotten "IT'S" when other girls don't pay attention or make mistakes.

Call Sunday, hoping for REAL letter today if they got to send mail Sunday, but still no box. Hope it comes soon, but if not, oh well, I guess our cell phone contracts are up right after training anyway. :)

NavyGF: Yes, you are correct that NO question on here is stupid! :-)
PIR dress code is whatever you want. You will see a mix of everything, but remember that your sailors will be in their finest so we suggest that people don't wear beach attire! :-) Nice jeans/pants, nice shirt, some even wear tshirts to support the Navy/their sailors....make sure you have comfortable walking shoes on as there is a bit of walking on the base.
Yes, it may be chilly up there by the time you go to PIR so be checking the temps that week---a light jacket is always a good thing to have with you. PIR Hall is kept at a comfortable temp, although in the summer with the a/c on, some have said it is chilly! Shouldn't be a problem for this group, I wouldn't think. Looks like the highs are normally in the 70s, lows in the 40s and 50s. Sounds like great temps to me!
