N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My daughter left on Aug. 6th.  Got her box yesterday.  Still am not sure about her Ship/Division. but I think it's Ship 14 Division 375. That is what I got out of the recruiter.  No letter yet...waiting...I am thinking that this would be the correct PIR...but waiting.  I agree about the stuff in the box, including the deodorant.  I sent a letter too, just in case it is correct.  Missing her, but very proud!!!

Finally got her "box" yesterday...  Bittersweet moment - made it official!  (Especially when I saw they made her send home her deodorant!)  Waiting on her letter but sent her a letter based on the address information that I got from her recruiter.  Just couldn't wait any longer.  Now the wait for a letter from her!!!  I didn't realize how empty my life would be without her, we did a lot together, now I am having to make myself do things that I looked forward to before!  Missing my baby so much!!!

For those of you who have a son or other loved one in a 800 division, it is best not to attach your ship and division to your profile name. As you join other spec op groups they will ask you to change that due to the nature of their training. It is also recommended that your profile pic not be that of your recruit. Its never too early to start being discreet

371/372...yep!  Brother divisions!

Disy- yesterday made 2 weeks for me also & no letter yet. I got my box last Monday...I'm being as patient as I can be!! I have my younger kids on mail watch to call me at work as soon as it comes. Ha ha

Enjoyapril - I think we might be brother divisions if you are Ship 12 372 'cos my SR is Ship 12 371 - would that be correct Veteran Moms?
Comment by Disy (Ship12Div371) on August 14, 2013 at 8:19am
Hi all - once you know your SR's division and ship you can add it to your "name" and then we can easily identify which ships and divisions we are all in!
Comment by Disy (Ship12Div371) on August 14, 2013 at 8:17am
Kadikaboom626 - didn't get my letter yesterday - today is 2 weeks! Let's stay positive and follow the one week for box two weeks for PIR and three weeks for call! I keep thinking of the route that letter has to take and I know it will get here eventually! If my SR can hang in - no news is good news in the Navy - then I can hang in too! It's funny when I see the mailman I'm like "okay don't be sad if it isn't there - breathe - don't be sad! " I feel like I am muttering it out loud! LOL! Some peeps that left after my SR already got their's already but everyday is a new day! You don't get mail everyday? You must be tearing through the pile! Okay fingers and toes crossed xxxx
