Taken from the community guidelines...

"• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security)
(Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips)

This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way.

The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter. If you scan in a picture of an article that contains your Sailor’s last name, make sure to black it out first. If it is an online Navy article or news article that you are reposting, do not publicly identify the mentioned Sailor as your son or daughter.
• No Sailor addresses, emails, or other contact information. The exception to this rule is FPO addresses.
• Specific dates, times, and locations regarding current or future deployments and ship movements. Do not post dates more specific than by month. Do not post specific ports of call, deployment bases, or future destinations.
• Details regarding training, equipment, and current or future operations or missions. (But Boot Camp is okay.)
• Names or numbers of the Recruit Training Command staff.
• Ways to cheat the system. Navy will see it as a breach of security when you share things like how to bend the rules. We don’t want to jeopardize the safety of our Sailors.

INCORRECT:
My Sailor is in XYZ unit and is stationed at ABC camp in XXX city in Iraq.
My daughter is aboard the XYZ ship heading to ABC city/country in X days.
They will be coming back on X date from XXX city.

CORRECT:
My Sailor is deployed in Iraq.
My son is aboard the Stennis.
They will be coming back sometime in May.

When in doubt, less is better.

Learn more about OPSEC here.

• Don’t Forget About Your Own and Other Members’ Privacy:
We want to get to know you and hear about your Sailor, but again, this site is publicly viewable. Posting your full name, your contact information (email addresses, phone numbers, links to your pages in other communities), and other sensitive information, such as credit card numbers, can jeopardize your own safety if it falls into the wrong hands. To be safe, share this information privately and only when you feel comfortable as we cannot verify the identities of everyone on the site. Keep in mind that there are privacy tools that are available within this site that can help you control who views the content that you post.

Private Messages, Blogs, and Groups are meant to be just that: private. This includes private information we send to you. If it was posted privately, assume that the posting member wants it to stay that way. Reposting privately shared information in a public manner without permission may be viewed as member harassment.

If someone is posting content that is against our guidelines within a private space, please let us know as communication within these areas of the site still falls under our guidelines."

@ Jane- you can post the city, and even the ship...but I would personally only publicly post the city. You can private msg other N4M's if they want to know the ship. Just don't post anything regarding ships coming/going to port, specific times, etc.

The community guidelines can be accessed if you scroll up and look toward the right of this page.

Sailorjay- I sold my vehicle oover the summer using Craigslist. There are so many scams out there, and it sounds like this one is a scam too. Also, do not take money orders or cashiers checks...they can be fakes. Take cash only and meet at the county clerks office to sign over the title immediatley. The buyer will have to pay taxes (at least in TX they do) and you can count the cash there, in public with no reason to worry. Transferring the title immediately will ensure that you aren't held responsible for what goes on with that vehicle any longer. In my experience, it is never a bad idea to be overly careful with craigslist!

SailorJay, the deal that buyer is trying to pull stinks to high heaven like a scam.  Don't send any money!!  You are right to be suspicious.

Reeniegalla: I agree with you.   i thought to see how far this guy is going to go.  From what he said it wasn't going to cost me anything.  He was going to pay for eveything, including transfer fees.

just asking a question. put my car in craig list to sell it. have been getting emails from a person who wanted to buy it. he asked questions and wanted" honest " answers to them. them he said he would buy it but wanted to pay by Paypal. long and short, now he is asking to help him, he has a "pickup" agent that he wants me to wire shipping fee to. He says he will add the money to the paypal account for that money. I feel a scam. What you ladies think?

I know how you feel Jane.  It has been in the 80s here as well.  We are also decorating in shorts, and such.  It takes me a little longer to get into the spirit.  But I have to get busy as my sailor will be home in 5 days and I haven't even started decorating.  Hubby has the outside almost finished though.  Sure is easier to decorate in warmth though.  I remember hubby in NY trying to decorate.  Outside for a few minutes, back in to warm, then outside, all night.  Don't miss it.lol

Sailorjay - I remember those days and I don't miss them.  Great pic of your son and his classmates.  I keep asking mine for pictures and it is always later.  He has squirrled up in the dorm as he doesn't want to brave the cold only if he has too.  Ate cake for dinner the other night as he didn't want to go out - boys will be boys.

Hey look, mastered the add a picture.  so proud of myself.  And all it took was dragging youngest son to computer to "help" dear old mom, get into this century and cookies.  If I only knew that before.

Other pictures are Sailors classmates and of course Buffalo last snow storm, hey it was only 3' and a couple of inches.  that's my car.
