i was in boot camp 3 weeks after i graduated high school, never having been away from home for that long or by myself. your daughter is right, night time was the worst. but my division was extremely tight. us girls got each other through it. sleep was oh so important, but there were nights i'd sit and talk with a girl in the rack next to mine (we both had top racks) we actually had so much in common. everyone was close, but we tended to become especially close with our bunkmates on those few around us. i came up with ways to pass the time, or get through a certain situation. i told them a random fact every day or a stupid question (why is there braille on drive thru atms??) haha and we all looked forward to it. i realize not all divisions are as close as mine, but it would definitely boost morale if she could try,

who... when you went in bc were you just 18? Had you ever been away from home before? How hard was it for you? Or do they keep you busy enough that you don't have too much time to get homesick? Tiff's letters said night time was the worse when she thinks of everyone back home and she didn't cry at all except when she made her call home and she just let loose :( she's just 18 first time away from home. I don't who it's harder on.... parents or kids?

so shes probably around week 6 somewhere... i dont remember exactly what week 6 entails, but i know shes gotten through the tough part. week 4. shes almost home free. they're actually probably getting ready for firefighting, now that i think of it. thats pretty time consuming as well

Ohhhh that is sad :( Well, she better have a good excuse for no mail for this week!! She's not too old to ground you know! I sure hope she's ok, she would send me like 6 pages in each letter, 3 letters each week, so to now get nothing is weird....

it wasnt all that big of a deal, i didnt like hearig my name yelled across the room and attached to all sorts of colorful words haha, but the 8 other girls i was on the "head crew" with and i became very close. it actually helped us in the long run.
and no, writing privilages do not get taken away. they can write their hearts out on sundays. one thing they can do is pass out the letters they get from home and tell them they cant read them =/ -that- was hard
Comment by Tiff'sMom (Sharon) on September 17, 2010 at 9:00pm
who.... It's a good thing you can laugh now, I bet you wanted to cry then! :( Do they get writing priledges taken away if they get in trouble or they didn't pass a test?

on that note haha....my first shower experience in boot camp was insane. point is, in all the chaos a few of us left our shampoo or soap or towel, what have you, in the showers. of course everything is stamped or stenciled and i heard my name yelled across the room. the punishment for leaving things behind? Head Crew (or as we called it: Nasty Nine) haha. cleaning the bathroom every day. i did that for like 2 or 3 weeks haha
