We're staying at the La Quinta Inn and renting a car. It's worth it for me to have to get up extra early to be at the gate by 6:30AM and sit in a line of cars for an hour to leave the base after PIR. He'll be with us for that part :)

bonniem: I agree with Jessica on the walk to the PIR Hall. It was in the teens when we went, and it still was a very enjoyable easy walk. So interesting to see the recruit divisions (in their blue camou's) marching (resist the urge to snap a picture....HUGE no no on the base....no outside piks!).

Someone posted once that ACE has cheaper car rentals.

bonniem: That is so nice to want to praise the recruiter. I think writing a nice letter detailing your family's experience with him would be wonderful (and part of his file!). You may want to directly ask the recruiter for his superior's contact info and you could even tell him why. I actually did this with a couple of home service people that had done a great job here, and asked them for their supervisor's contact info. At first, they looked shocked like I was going to complain about them, but I told them why I wanted the info. In one case, I saw the guy a couple of months later, and he thanked me profusely saying that my letter came at "review" time and enabled him to get his raise! YA!H So probably best to verbally commend directly to your recruiter and ask for his superior's contact info to send the letter. Just my very un-military suggestion!

Thanks for the info JessicaB. I have 2 questions that maybe you or someone else can answer.
Question 1: what version of Anchors Aweigh do the new Seamen sing at PIR? Is it the one in the dep book?
Question 2: What would be an appropriate way to let someone know what an asset my sons recruiter is. He was great from the first visit, though all of DEP and even now. I feel that needs recognition.

I am planning on taking the shuttle to PIR, I think I read somewhere that it will involve a long walk from the gate to the grad hall. Anyone know for sure? (Have to plan the shoes)
Hoping for a call soon. Praying the kids are coming together as a team.

Hello everyone, I'm so excited. Yesterday I bought Tide sticks, then last night we got our plane tix and rental car. Now it feels real. I hope they don't get set back. Good flight deals last night. 225 for wed thru mon, and less than 200 thurs thru mon, (my husband flies out later cause of work, so my dad, my other son and I will get there Wed. Actually the rental car was more than the flight. I got my tix on priceline and my husband got his at cheap - something or the other, but we are on the same return flights, same airline.
