Tiffsmom I figure the girls write more too. Mine said he was getting to write more at night. Has anyone heard about a rule that our SR's have to stay 5 miles from the base the weekend of PIR while on liberty? I was told this by a mom that went to PIR 8/13. The place I am staying is only 1 mile from base. I would hate to have a room that he can't go to.

Thanks for clarifying Jane! Yes, Navy Lodge is the name of a hotel about 1.5 miles from base.

Sondra... she writes at night time, 5 of her pages were when she was suppose to be sleeping :( She would put the day of the week and write, then she did the questionaire and she wrote a 3 page letter on Sunday and wrote her bf and brother and sister.... this is my VERY QUIET little girl.... seems she has a lot to say now! LOL and she said there is so much to tell you and not enough time to write. I think girls are more likely to write more than boys LOL and if she's anything like her mom.... uhh duhhh I tend to be on the chatty writey side! LOL

Ladies, the inspections continue in A School and once they are stationed as well. Best for all to learn the right way in bc because it will continue. I LOVED watching my son fold his extra tshirt in our hotel room after PIR....he didn't know I could see him in there, but normally, he folded very quickly and a bit sloppy. Not this time....wow....it was like he was creating a work of art! I was SO impressed! I have also heard from others that their former messy sons organized their hotel bathroom after PIR...and pointed out to moms what they had placed wrong in there! One even folded his mom's pj's a different way! HA! Another re-folded the hotel towels and informed his Mom that the hotel "does it wrong." :-)

PLEASE be very careful when they are in their whites. They get dirty so easily. You may want to carry a small towel to PIR for them to sit on when they ride back in the shuttle, car,etc (seriously!). Tide sticks are a must...when you hug them, place your hand on their shoulder first, and then rest your chin on your hand to keep makeup off of their shoulder. Mine was in the blues so this wasn't such a deal....but he complained when in his whites heading to his duty station that they get dirty so easily.

@Jane- perhaps you heard this about Navy housing on base?
Comment by diannep on September 4, 2010 at 3:13pm
Kudos to you, LTLY~ I think that is wonderful that you are sharing what you find on Naval History. And isn't it the truth that MOST of us as we get older become interested in things that didn't interest us at all when younger! I was not too interested in financial things or investments...until my hubby died 9 yrs ago and I had to learn to survive and care for my sons....boy, am I interested now and truly enjoy sharing what I have learned with others (Suze Orman is my hero!). Wisdom is acquired as we go through life, right? If we could all go back and do things over, carrying the wisdom we have NOW, how different we would have done them!

Wonder if I can just sign my husband up for bc just so he will learn how to clean! lol WOW 8 pages!!!!!! I got 3 this time and he was stretching the third! lol

On the troublemakers....every group has them. In fact, my son may have been a bit of a rebel at first also, sorry to say, when he was there. Not with the RDC's, but with the recruit leaders. Everyone has their issues coming in, and even those who are compliant won't escape the "wrath" at times from the RDC's, mainly to get them to pull from within more than they think they are capable of. Their job is to get the MOST out of your recruits, and when your recruit is doing his/her very best, the RDC will use a "method" to show him/her that he/she can do even better! No stone goes unturned. There are alot of threats made to motivate, and many times, the threats will turn into reality. But by mid-bc, most all realize that they aren't going to get away with anything and even the ones trying to get discharged (and there are always ones who want to) will realize that it isn't easy. I know a sailor, still in school, who has been trying to get a general discharge for a long time now (in school 1.5 yrs so far)....he is finding that it isn't so easy to get a general discharge when the Navy has put so much effort and $$$ into him. By the time they are halfway to PIR, the RDC's are doing whatever it takes to get them to graduate....and will use every way possible to ensure that. Remember, it is their job! But besides that, I'm sure that they take pride in each of their sailors at PIR, remembering how the group looked when it first started.

Jane, try and hang in there. Your son is not the first to go through with dyslexia, nor will he be the last. My guess is that the troublemakers are mischief makers, or just deciding that they don't have to do things the "Navy's" way. My son wasn't so great academically, but he learned in bc to join the study groups, etc...and he did fine! Well, after he flubbed the first test because he didn't think he needed to study! UGH! THAT put him on the wrong side of the RDC's because I believe the first test is pretty easy. I'm thankful to say that after a brief separation, he was put back with another division in week 3 and did great.

As reeniegalla said: your group is right about at that halfway point. Now, no doubt, it is still tough, but the tide starts to turn and they finally realize that they CAN do things right and that the RDC's WANT them to make it.

Jane, where did you hear that about being pushed out of the Navy Lodge? I can't imagine that is true on in GL with so many using it for PIRs? Was this said about the GL Navy Lodge, or one at another base?

@diannep- I didn't retain much history knowledge from school, but it seems more interesting to me these days. I am very patriotic and thought it would be a neat way to pass the day reading about the history of they navy. Maybe it will help me be a better Navy Wife!

And to add, I have never heard of the Navy Lodge hotel kicking someone else out for a more important client. You have reserved your room just as anyone else has. I have allready called to confirm our reservations and request a crib. I urge anyone who has reservations there or is thinking of it to call and clarify this rumor before jumping to conclusions.
