Good news about the mall... no COACH store and YES there is an American Cookie store! LOL

Dianne and reeen.... I think I know why they don't let moms in BC... because if someone was in my babies face yelling like that I would be sooo upset!! And I'm sure the fathers would want to smack the RDC's LOL

Yep, you got it, reeniegalla! They tell them whatever they need to in order to get them motivated to do well. That involves fear tactics too...but it works! My son was in DEP for 10 months...and had the advantage of a friend who went in a year ahead of him. He spoke to my son on his own PIR day...he was an older recruit....and said "You know, I GOT it. I didn't like the mind games and screaming, but I understood why they were doing it." So my son and I talked alot about that before he went in....he was more prepared, but still said when a Chief was screaming BAD THINGS directly into his ear (OUCH!), he could feel tears coming. This is a guy who had been yelled at during his life in school (class clown), etc so thought he could 'take it." But it got to him too....but in the end, he said it was the best thing for him. Got him motivated, he wasn't allowed to quit.....did he like bc? NOOOO.....just mentioned that again yesterday (he is stationed now) that he hated bc. But it is not supposed to be a Disney World experience! It creates SAILORS!

Jane: I think alot of them ask to go home at some point (early on). My son said the same happened in his group. They are overwhelmed at first and sometimes not taking it seriously or buck the strict discipline enforced, not to mention them hating the tearing down process that begins immediately. The build back up process is when they feel positive again....that usually happens about week 4. Keep encouraging him! Remember, RDC's use mind games to in order to elicit the very best from the recruits. Sometimes that may be in the form of reverse psychology to get the recruit's dander up so that he/she really pulls from within to get it done! Remember, always encourage....never share anything with him that might make him worry or sad....even world news....this is the time for good news only delivered to them....and constant reassurance that they CAN do this because at some point, most question that. But they CAN!

Does anyone know the name of the mall near the base?
Comment by Tiff'sMom (Sharon) on September 3, 2010 at 12:43pm
Yes... I had to change them up a bit, but she loved them!! I'm trying to do my own, a little more specific, because I think she is tired of me asking who her bunk mate is! LOL and I still only know it's a girl from Downtown Houston. LOL
