My son was told he couldn't enlisted until after college. His uncle died on 9/11 and I didn't want my any of my sons to go into the military for the wrong reasons. But he has always wanted to join the Navy. He graduated as a history major and it took him a year just to get his job and then another nine months as a dep. They were calling him pappy before he left. I am more proud of him each and every day. Gotta wipe those "budding tears".

My son spent 4 years in ROTC. It wasn't offered at our school so he had to be at school at 6:00 am everyday to take a bus to a neighboring school that had NJROTC. He always wanted the military life. With encouragement from his commander and family and friends, he applied for the Naval Academy. Our local Congressman nominated him. We were thrilled! He went for a physical and everything seemed great. Then we get a letter saying he was disqualified because of a football injury he got in the 9th grade. We ended up fighting it and he was requalified but it was all too late. He didn't get the appointment. So, he enrolled in college. He spent a semester there and hated it. He came home for 2nd semester and after no luck with jobs or a future plan, he turned to the Navy. He wanted Seabees, but there were no openings. They decided he was a good fit for IS school. It's not what he was thinking about doing but I think it will be great!

LTLY- My hubby decided on the Navy with the input of myself, my brother, friends and family. My bro is a Coastie but they are hard as hell to get into. In any case, hubby figured he would do Navy first and maybe transfer branches and try USCG after. But I think he's going to really like the Navy and stay there. I was going to go USAF but decided on college instead. Dad and uncle were Army. I have brothers in USGC, USMC, cousin in USAF and now my hubs is going Navy. We have all the branches covered in our family. Hubs always considered military since he grew up near Ft. Hood. He did the college thing and decided that military still sounded good so with my consent and well wishes I sent him on his way to go for it.

I spent last night in the ER triage....was hoping to be able to meet my son by today but no luck there. I went in for excessive swelling in my face, hands and feet which is usually a sign of preeclampsia. While in there I started to have contractions and the baby's heartrate dropped extremely low. Scared me to death. I just kept thinking "my husband would never be able to live with himself if something happened to his son while he is gone." After turning to the other side his heart-rate went back up and everything seemed to be going normal. Thank God!

So in the end....im hoping for a phone call from my husband today just to give him a little update on how the pregnancy is going. If not I guess thats ok too....his division has been pretty fortunate to be able to call as many times as they have.
